The potential payout from just the ignition failures could reach 10 billion dollars without much trying...I dont believe the gov will bail all of them out as GM corp again. I agree with the latest theory that they will continue as individual companies if they can
The Toyota unintended acceleration lawsuit was 3x what this ignition switch lawsuit is. I'm not worried one bit about GM.

Who cares when the lawsuits started? It has to do with when the vehicles were being produced and sold. If im not mistaken that was during the bail out right?
For one, it wasnt really a "bailout." (i used a poor term choice, sorry) Most of it wasnt even money they were required to pay back because it was a stimulus package meant to offset the cost of retooling and restructuring to produce more efficient vehicles...all of the manufacturers got it....

General Motors went bankrupt in 2009. Because of that they are not liable for any recalls on vehicles prior to 2009 because they are a different firm. Those ignition switches cannot legally be held against GM at this time.
"According to Automotive News, the company negotiated with state attorneys general and consumer groups during its restructuring to only carry product liability on faults with vehicles from after it left bankruptcy in 2009. If any owners want to sue GM for issues that took place before that time, they would have to take it up with the "old GM" in a bankruptcy court. I used to think the same as you in that respect. Then I drove the new Jeep Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel. And after all my research into the drivetrain and the test drives and comparisons, chrysler got a lot right in recent years as has GM. Chrysler just gives you a lot more for the money at this point.

Seriously though, I value your opinion Judd. I am currently on the fence between a ram limited 2500 and the new Denali. Why should I choose the Ram over the GM? Solely bc I should be worried about warranty or quality?

Denali. Hands down. I'm not even sure why that was an option. Ram just recently pulled their heads out of dark places and just started making decent (I say that word with very little meaning) vehicles. GM has had some of the best 3/4 & 1 ton vehicles out there for at least 14 years and counting. Only real competitor GM had was Ford, and we won't begin to mention how they are the only ones who still owe the taxpayers $4,000,000,000 out of the "Big 3". Plus, their 6.7L Powerstrokes are shit.
I have always been a diehard GM guy but Ford got it right with the 6.7 commonrail injected piezo electric solenoid injected bosch injectors. There has been very few problems with the Scorpion engine 2012 and up. My wife is driving a King Ranch F-350 and its a damn nice truck. Now that being said its the family car not the 1/4 mile sports car or tractor pulling machine. Thats what the duramax is for lol!
