Probably high jacking this thread but it seems a bit off topic any ways. When did a truck become about the interior? Am I the only person who looks for a basic work truck anymore? I mean my speakers have been blown in my truck for 18 months and I took them out. couldn't care less about the inside as long as it doesn't stink. Maybe times have passed me by.


Guys like you are the minority these days. I for one agree with you a little. We have an 02 farm truck that I feel this way about. But for my personal truck, I say bring on the creature comforts, luxury seats, high end stereo, and the quieter the better. :)

My wife had issues with her Saturn ion and did have a bunch of keys. Just the fob.

Sounds like GM is coming to get the truck on Monday. I bet my insurance company and GM are going to be going to court over the fire.

The fire investigator hired by the insurance company was by yesterday morning to have a look and it sounds like he figures there was a power feeder that was to blame. He found a heavy gauge wire that was severed and burnt on the ends (strands were balled up from melting copper). I am not sure if I believe that as the battery wires are pretty well protected and supported and would have had the insulation burnt off pretty quickly by the fire on that side but I am not the expert.

Either way, I am slowly putting my life back together. I had a lot of stuff in my truck including all my ID, lots of clothing, tools etc that I've been missing sorely. I still catch myself looking for my wallet any time I go to head out or something. Not a particularly fun experience at all but I feel so fortunate that my truck burned out on the driveway and not inside my garage where I normally park it. That would have been absolutely horrible and I feel very bad for the OP's friend loosing his entire home over a similar situation.

They still haven't resolved my buddies truck fire (OP that started this thread)

I hope all goes well for the op....but....I'm losing a lot of love for GM products lately. My LBZ has been flawless and my wife's Denali has been a huge piece of turd. My son wants my LBZ which puts me in a market for a new truck, and I'm seriously giving Ram a good look. To me, it seems that GM has trouble listening to what the consumer wants. They are always a day late and a dollar short compared to the others. Great motor, so so body, and an interior that still lacks up fitter switches and roominess as well....in a truck that's a few months old as far as being redesigned.

If Ram or Ford had the same fires as the op and others have had, we'd be all over them as well.....I can imagine the field day the other boards are having....

Nonetheless this GM lawsuit and the ignition switch is IMO a crock of poop! People have more crap hanging off their key chains from stuffed animals to work ID's. My bet is some weigh upwards to 2 pounds!

The key chain should have the ignition key and perhaps a fob period. If Judge Judy ruled on it GM would win . :D

This is NO shit... Me and my gal weighed her mothers key chain for her jeep, 41oz!!!! Pepper spray id's keys that go to nothing breasts cancer support things and Kansas university thing.

I wonder how they could possibly catch fire from the battery cables. :rolleyes: Here is what mine looks like under the intake tube. The wires are pushed down by the intake against an ac line. Let it get rubbed bare enough and it should short right out on the line. 3 wires run there, 1 to alternator, 1 to the grid heater, 1 bigger that I didn't trace, maybe goes to the other side. I put a rubber hose over the wires.

I truly apologize for resurrecting such an old thread, but I have experienced the engine fire twice now, and have what i believe to be some information that hopefully someone will find useful. My Brother-In-Law owns a 2006 2500HD, and has had two engine fires. The first was on the passenger side, which melted the starter. He had just come out of his mother's home, approximately 30 minutes after arriving and found flames erupting from the passenger wheel well. The second fire also ignited at the starter after the starter remained electrically energized and running, even after the key was removed. The day after fire #2, upon starting the truck first thing in the morning, the started subsequently remained energized a third time, while the truck was running. My B-I-L shut down the engine but the starter continued to run. I opened the under hood fuse panel and removed the starter relay which was stopped the starter. We felt as though we had dodged a serious bullet, as the truck was pulling a new $60K boat. Two fires and one near fire, all originating at a starter that remained energized. Three different starters, all caught fire (#2 was a factory unit from the dealer). The small purple lead that is used to light the solenoid is what remains energized. I'm suspicious that a fault in the Body Control Module, through which this circuit passes, may be at fault. We installed a normally open momentary switch inline with the solenoid circuit. So now there's a button to push while the key is turned. -at least it won't catch fire again.... Hopefully.
