To me the 1792/PPE pump is slightly annoying only when the truck is at idle. I have to turn the truck off when going through a rive through anyway so it's not that big of a deal.

I've never noticed the pump when I've been driving.

Running your pump off of a fuse is a bad idea. Painless sells a fuel pump relay kit pretty cheap. It can prevent un-wanted smoke;)

I agree. A simple Bosch relay is normally what I use. Relay's are definetly a better way to power a pump, and can be switched off of the switched power in the fuse box. But, either way, if something goes south, you won't cause anymore unwanted smoke with or without the relay, the fuse will still let go and power will be discontinued. Providing the fuse isn't good for 50A :D That's why I went with the ABS fuse-it's only 10A. And on the power out terminal, not the power in one.

Dunno. When I first tried the 1792, I was told it would not deal with diesel fuel, but the same pump is working over 2 years later.

I tried the Mallory (worked, but not high enough flow) and the Holley HP150 (great flow, busted in 1 month) also, as well as the "old faithful" Carter pump.

I had good luck with the 1792, till it got cold here. 2 warranty pumps, both started leaking within 24 hours of install. I figure it must be the seals shrinking in the cold or something. All 3 leaked fuel from the wire pass through.

I wonder if that is the seal Dan said they upgraded when they had the PPE pumps made?

He told me it was all different seals and different impeller.

There is a shaft seal that is at the base of the motor, where it goes into the lower block. Thats the one that is allowing fuel into the motor and filling it up till it runs out the wire pass through.

The last pump, I took it apart, drilled out the outlet and reduced the fuel pressure to 7.5 psi at idle in attempt to relieve some of the pressure off the seal, still leaked in 24 hours.

You know Pat, that same cheap noisey POS Carter pump has probably pumped 10 000 liters of fuel out of my slip tank into my truck fuel tank and it still works great. I have taken it apart and cleaned the screen probably 5 times, but it's still going strong. I wonder why.....

It stranded me twice with the kids in the truck once at 10 pm at night in the middle of the street  Never again will we put a Carter on the truck I drive.

Maybe, I'll just use the pump as a summer time thing. I don't need crazy power when there are 15" of snow on the ground.:D

Probably why mine is still working so good. It doesn't get to cold down here in FLA. Most of the time it is" Flippy" weather:D

For everyones info. All the seals in the 1792 pump can be purchased at your local Hydrolic repair shop.
