Lets discuss Injectors, big fuel

Perhaps he should have made it more clear. I tuned his truck for free at the Suncoast open-house, and he was very happy at the time. That post looks like I blew his truck up. In any case, he copied it into this thread for reason.

Yup, I figure about 2% of the trucks I've tuned have blown up. Best guess is that I've tuned 600 trucks (probably much more). My only guarantee is that anything I sell or give out for free will reduce the life of your engine, or your money-back.

If somebody tells you big injectors will stop your engine from blowing up, they are selling injectors, not truth. What worries me, is that if they have worked on lots of trucks as they claim, they do know the truth, they just omit it.

No diesel shop has any failures, but they do love to discuss other people's failures.

I sell far fewer injectors than some shops out there, but I know that with the recipe I've been using for the last two years we've made some damn good cookies ;) with stock engines. We're not making the most power out there or have the strongest trucks but there are a lot of them out there so I would think we'd see some failures. I know I've got 10 LBZ/LMM's out there on a single pump, cheetah and 60% sticks that are running just fine.

I would expect one of them to blow sooner or later because some of these guys are binary drivers... on or off the throttle :)

Not a commercial... Just stating what I've found to work. Short PW enough timing to achieve a 12-18 degree EOI and enough boost to clean it up.

I added my info. I have not hurt a piston. I looked at them a couple weeks ago. They looked dandy. I do not run water. I have plamsa hot EGTs. I think that one of the big over looked thing is exposure time. High heat will only transfer to the piston if it has enough time to transfer. Running big pulse widths, pilot injection, and low rpm increase the time of heat exposure. I run big injectors and agressive timing. What this does is limits the amount of fuel be injected after TDC. You want to make heat, spray lots of fuel after TDC. I have discussed this In my Timing vs time posts. I not saying I have the answer but I have managed to keep my truck alive doing things that many say are bad like running lots of timing, high egts, and big injectors.

This is a spin off thread.
I'm interested as to what is killing motors. Is it timing, PW, duel fuelers or large turbos.
Can we get specifics listed so to try to figure this out?
What are the specifics?

What happened hole in piston, bent rod-

How many miles at this level-

#1- Injectors- Big!

#2- PW- Less than 2000

#3- Timing-As high as 35* at 4000rpm

#4- Fueling-27000 with CP3x2

#5- Turbo GT4202
#6- Motor built or not-Built by with the same LB7 pistons that where in the engine delipped and cut by me

#7- LIft PumpsHolley HP150

How many miles at this level- 40 pulls

#1- Injectors- >100%

#2- PW- <2500uS

#3- Timing- Depends on RPM but over 5000rpm we're running over 40 degrees

#4- Fueling- CP3x2 @ 29,000psi

#5- Turbo S475

#6- Motor built or not- Rods and coated Pistons

#7- LIft Pumps Airdog 150gph

I cannot vouch for my motor because it is still running. I have been running the same specs as below but with a big singles. And like JB I have had extreme high egts. I have been running big timing and big PW and the truck has been running hard for close to 60k now.

On the flip side my buddy Josh (02bigstrokin) and I tore his motor down this past weekend and found several issues. Motor had 5 bent rods. #7 and #8 were bent soo bad the pistons were not far from making contact. The motor from the factory came with 3 cut injector o-rings causing oil to be burned in the cylinders and also I dont know if the oil was the cause or casting flaws but #6 had signs of pitting in the top of the pistons. This was all with stock sticks and single cp3.

Henrys was stock motor stock turbo I beleive - pop.

Chad Alligator was same story - pop.

Tommy had dual fuelers but pop.

WikdLMM stock stock pop.

I became a believer when i added my %25 injectors. Picked up 3 tenths and 3 MPH just by changing sticks.

#3- Timing- 32*

#4- Fueling- single cp3 modded

#5- Turbo - stock, 68mm fleece, 71.5mm fleece

What happened hole in piston, bent rod- ROD/PISTON SEPARATED AND WINDOWED THE BLOCK

How many miles at this level- 7500 OR SO MILES DAILY ABUSED. PROB 40K TOTAL WHEN IT WENT

#1- Injectors- STOCK

#2- PW- 3200

#3- Timing- 30

#4- Fueling-SINGLE UNMOLESTED CP3

#5- Turbo - CUSTOM TWINS HT60 OVER STOCK LB7

#6- Motor built or not- NOT

#7- LIft Pumps - FASS 150 (PUMP ONLY)

This was Importkilla's 03 LB7. It never saw a day where it wasn't abused. Tuning wasn't the greatest since EFI Live just recently came out then but I have looked back at it several times and have not seen anything I wouldn't try today. The motor had been bastard stacked for several thousand miles prior to twinning it. Ate a couple purple trannies along the way as well. Dynoed 589 IIRC on Dunbars.

Well hell, nobody said anything about tranny's, I'm on # 5 including the stock one that nothing was wrong with  but my motor is still alive...........where some freaking wood to knock on now

#1- Injectors- Stock

#2- PW- 3000

#3- Timing- 27°

#4- Fueling- Stock CP3

I dont have EFI Live on this computer, so I cant check out the specifics, but mine is an 08 LMM running EFI LIVE McRat Race that I know had what some people thought 'high' timing.

I asked Pat about it and his response was "Well... Jasons truck was the test bed for the LMM race tune and on the dyno it like more timing.... made more power!"

I got a grin on my face and said perfect! Like Pat said above.... guaranteed to go fast! Thats what I wanted.

Im hard on my stuff....every day. I think that was what did my motor in more than anything. 20,003 miles with built tranny and mcrat race for about 15k. Airdog 150 for about 10k, 5" exhaust DPF delete, intake and thats about it for performance mods.

Night before Id been racing another car from 0-125 or something and had had it above 130 on multiple occasions while not exactly minding my EGT gauge

15 1/4 mile passes probably. Lots of street playing. I think a combo of beating on it, high EGTs at high MPH and a high timing tune that was always in the truck did it in.
