My thinking is that broken cranks are driveline related, not crankshaft strength per se.

Anything you can do to reduce shock to crank couldn't hurt.

Perhaps there might be a market for a rubber coupler/dampener.

Did you have an LB7 crank? Seems it most affects LB7's.

LB7 crank. I already found several LLY cranks and I talked to Guy today about a billet crank.

I got the lower pan off it looks fine. No shavings, no chunks, no grit, just oil. The oil looked good and so did the filter. As best I can see everything looks good. I need to pull the engine to look further. I am really thinking the crank is broke.

This getting weirder. Everything I have checked so far has been good.

Sounded like a single cylinder, what ever the issue. Sounded like when I dropped a rod in a gasser. Valve?

You will know soon enough I am afraid. Let me know if you need/want a hand. I'll drive up.

Johnboy, from my experience with a broken cranks, (and I've seen alot) sometimes they break and leave all kinds trash, chunks and debris in the pan. Yet I have seen some that visually you can see anything unitl you have disengage the clutch (but that's on a semi with pull style clutches). Have you tried putting it in gear and have someone bar the engine over with the damper bolt so you can try and see movement or lack of it in the crankshaft? I seen the video and it sounded "deep", but of couse that's a video and not in person. I have had injectors cause fuel knock that make the engine sound like it's about to come apart. Are your 80% over injectors the original nozzles honed out? If so I'd think there is a real good change that it cracked a tip due to the loss of material and increase rail pressure via the CP3X2. A cracked tip would cause horrible fuel knock. Just giving you some ideas from past experience. I hope it is an injector and not the crank for your sake. Good luck.

Sean and I decided to just pull the engine out. We got the trans out and are basicly ready to pull the engine. What ever is wrong is "deep". :( I checked for a messed up injector yesterday. I found nothing. I already had one hang up. But interestingly enough the side that the knock comes from appears to be the passenger side. The injector I hung was a drivers side injector. I at first thought I broke piston because off a hung injector, but I had no blow by like I have seen from others that broke pistons.

I am going to tear the engine down completely. At this point I have no real choice. The way I see it I either spun a rod bearing or broke the crank.

Thanks for all your thoughts they really do help!:cool2:

Thanks guys. :)

Sean (UPS DRVR) and I got the engine out. We tryed to put it back on the stand but had a bolt break and mess up the adapter plate and cut up my finger. The engine ended up on the floor.:( It went down gentlely. We got it back up right and called it a night. We will tear into into tomorrow.

If my motor is falling, I normally push someone underneath it to cushion the fall:D J/K Hope the cut's not too bad....... Soak it in diesel fuel, it will heal faster.
