We know that the calibration is different but why wouldn't it work. Possibly the electric transfercase might not get the correct signals to operate but I would think the trans should work fine with it. I could be wrong.

I think the only thing the TCM cares about with regards to 4wd is the 4Lo input so it recognizes the ratio change in the transfer case and doesn't limp.
so it should be ok as long as I dont run in 4x4? or should i get the 02 4x4 TCM? the reason i thought about the 2wd TCM is because it was from an 01. -Jeff
The TCM is the same. As far as I know it doesn't care. You could always flash a stock TCM file in for a 4wd.
I plugged in the TCM, threw a couple of codes, truck would not shift out of 1st gear, I hooked it up to the scan tool and manually shifted it into 2nd, 3rd, and so on. Do I have to get another flashscan license and load a different tune into the TCM? If so my $150 TCM will end up costing me $250 and I dont even know if that is the problem!
Yes, you'll need another license to flash the TCM. Do you know what it came out of? WAAAY back when I purchased my second TCM for use with EFILive, I plugged it in and took the truck for a spin; shifts where funky as heck, but it didn't throw codes; turns out it came out if a 8.1L truck. Seems odd that yours wouldn't leave first. Did you try clearing all codes?

ya i cleared the codes, they just came right back, something about "too much torque to tcm" or something like that?
it came out of an 01 2wd dmax. i am going to try and swap it out for one out of an 02 on monday. -jeff

I take it the tcm swap did not help ?
I never could get the TCM to work, at this point I am just ready to pull it, send it to Mike, have whatever needs replaced taken care of, maybe get the snake oiler and a Mike L cooler, then put it back in and know that I have the best built trans possible.
Trans is coming out tomorrow!!! Chad from Alligator perf. is coming over to give me a hand and bringing his trans jack!!! Hopefully it wont take too long!! -Jeff
