does suncoast use the stock Allison clutches? I got a quote to replace the clutches and it was right around $2k, that includes R&R and fluid, is that reasonable? TIA -Jeff

no suncoast uses alto red eagle clutches , and there are more clutches than stock also, steels are different as well . i would not trust your trans to a non performance allison builder . jmop

problem is there are no performance allison builders here, the closest one is either Mike L (over 1000 miles away) or DTT (over 600 miles away and in canada)

the guy i talked to use to work for allison and has worked on many 1000's, he is the one that suggested I find out what suncoast uses and get a price on the clutches prior to having him tear into it. If he was able to contact suncoast i think it would be ok??

I would imagine your first couple run's are slower than your final one's due to the trans learning wot shifts?

Actually no my truck at its current setup is extremely consistent the only difference in my runs are my 60's kinda strange the last trip to the track was a 12.34,12.36, and 12.38.

I am going to take it to a guy tomorrow so he can use the Allison software to apply clutches and do something else, will that help to pinpoint if it is the clutches that are worn?

I can pull the trans this weekend, borrow a buddys car for the time it takes to get fixed, but if I pull the trans I will probably take it to someone to have the clutches replaced, unless anyone thinks i can do it myself??

I wouldnt even know what to look at or where to look to see if there were any problems, Mike, what if I shipped it to you?

mike, and others, have been known to hold folks' hands over the phone to assist them in building their trans. themselves. Just a thought. I haven't ever built one but many say if you are mechanically inclined and call the right folks when in a bind, it's plenty doable for the DIYer.

If it's a financial option, shipping surely isn't more than ~$500 to and fro for having Mike build it. I'd venture to guess he could put that much worth of "special touches" in it to make it worth your while and add value to your consumer dollar. ;)

Good luck bud.

I would love to, but I cant afford the time off, let alone the fuel to get there and the cost to repair it!

Have you thought about asking IdahoRob and those guys for help? Boise is about a 6 hour drive from you. If they could help, you could drive there, rebuild the trans and be home in one day, possibly even a weekend day. Give one of them a shout...you never know.

I had a bad 2-3 flare (hang) shift when racing. My tuner sent me a trans tune that worked well with my race tune, and the flare is gone.

I thought about asking Rob and Nathan, but they are slammed with "MaxD Out" right now and IIRC Rob only did the transgo kit??

I think that might be the plan, anyone have an idea where I would get a crate to send it in. think it would be ok to strap it to a pallet and wrap it in plastic?

My father in law has a crate his turbo 350 came in. I could see if he will let you barrow it. I can meet you half way for the transport, or we could figure something else out.
