Jason I haven't been on here reading in awhile. From what I remember your originally motor blew a piston right after the DP72. Then you got another motor that had more miles than you were told. Is this that engine or did you scrap that and get a gm remand?

The GM reman is the current broke crank.

Thanks for updating the thread Russ. And thanks again for all your effort, help and taking me in and taking this on.:hug:

Been a rough week for me, the crank failure changed my entire trip and plan, but I'm enjoying the California coast and sunshine, so its not all bad :)

Moving forward:
O-ringed block
New LMM crank
Cast 16.5/1 Ovals have been ordered from Danville and should be at RPM next week, Carrillo's, 3388 AF cam, 625 studs, billet injector hold downs and stud kit...maybe a stroker pump. Selling the DP stg2 3794 for a DP 68R
I'm probably missing something, but that's the gist of it.

Hoping for 750whp, but honestly... I just want it to run
Russ thinks if everything goes well, I'll have a pretty awesome Christmas present :eek:

Correct I was just wondering if the remand was the one he got after the blown piston and was filthy on the inside.

99% sure the reman was a brand new one from the dealer

He might have. But I think this one was a fresh reman from the dealer and he put 20k on it before it broke a crank

Sucks. I hope cruise control doesn't have anything to do with it. 40 of my 90 mile round trip commute is cruise at 75.

Correct
The first (original) engine lost the #8 @ 156k right after I installed the vgt72
Then I bought a junkyard engine that didn't pan out, and yes it presented itself so poorly I tore it down to inspect it and found a broken upper pan and bearings that looked like 300k mi old
I got my money back because it had been dropped and I saw a fracture in the upper oil pan

Then I bought a GM re-man from my local dealer
And here I am, closer to 18k mi later than 20k, with a broken crank

That's two engines in 20k miles (stock ones) with catastrophic failure while set on cruise. It's something I keep.wondering about, and lets just say I won't be using cruise much (EVER) in the future

I set my cruise for 800 miles on a one day trip to Massachusetts around 75mph and turned around 2 days later and did the same on the way home. Don't think cruise is the issue lol

I've damn near worn the cruise button out on my truck. 200k on the Pistons and crank and still going lol

Ha-ha I would bite my tongue talking about the crank still being good! Those are dangerous words around here


Right?? I've been knockin on wood since the post lol. I have a spare crank here just in case. Just have to get a block worse case. Good excuse for jons pistons and af cam then too. My wife may murder me though..... That's the real plan to figure out lol

Sucks when they break doing nothing to write home about..
Both piston I lost where when I was cruise down a grade..
Crank was slow taking off from a toll both..

Damn, this thread is scaring the bejesus out of me even with 55K on the clock with an EFI tune, minor modifications and needing to make 6-7 trips to San Diego over a period of 2 months.....
