Damn, this thread is scaring the bejesus out of me even with 55K on the clock with an EFI tune, minor modifications and needing to make 6-7 trips to San Diego over a period of 2 months.....

yeah, tell me about it...right now that last thing I want to do is use a GM crank...and please, everyone, spare me the "1000's don't have/haven't had an issue...I have now, and this sucks!:baby:

$5000g for a billet crank is steep, but it really doesn't seem like a bad insurance policy...(so to speak):thumb:

where's that "Wagler" guy? :baby:
I'll be your huckleberry :woott:

if it happened again, and toasted the block, AGAIN, it'd be $5g just to get a new block prepped, new crank, RA balanced/installed and have a usable short block ready to go.

soooo, yeah, the logic is there...the fund-age:broke: :stop: :cop:
:baby:
:spit:

billet crank or twin kit?

Right?? I've been knockin on wood since the post lol. I have a spare crank here just in case. Just have to get a block worse case. Good excuse for jons pistons and af cam then too. My wife may murder me though..... That's the real plan to figure out lol
hmmm, murdered before or after the first full throttle run?
I'm tired of having "excuses" to upgrade...:spit::eek:

I've damn near worn the cruise button out on my truck. 200k on the Pistons and crank and still going lol

I set my cruise for 800 miles on a one day trip to Massachusetts around 75mph and turned around 2 days later and did the same on the way home. Don't think cruise is the issue lol

you guys must be living right, I dunno, my cruise control is jinxed, two separate tuners too...not that I believe either tune had anything to do with either failure...other than how much time my skinny pedal was on the floor:D

thanks again for all the support and kind words, and motivation guys, although Russ is the one with his hands full here...sadly, y'all know I'm a ROYAL PITA!
:)

Damn sucks to hear!

Although the forum help is amazing

this forum is theBOMB.com, or it should be...lol

Nobody deserves that shit bud. Russ should have all kinds of stuff to make you flat broke and in deep debt:rofl:
I AGREE!
Honestly, Russ tried his hardest to talk me out of spending the money, cuz he is all to aware how fast it adds up...
that was one reason I instantly trusted him, too;)

Just curious if this GM long block you bought had a warranty? Or are you out $7k?
it has a warranty, I'm working the kinks out with that and will update as it progresses, or doesn't progress

Damn man you have some luck... Its great there are so many knowledgeable and helpful people on this form though.

Bummer Jason. If it weren't for bad luck... Russ will help you out he's a good dude:thumb: I think you have rubbed everyone wrong at some point on here:D
Y'all can say it...bad luck...
Meh, it builds character, right:roflmao:

Sucks big time. It's threads like this that had me seriously considering jumping ship to a Powerstroke. I realize there are a lot of Duramax trucks out there and only a small percentage have had this happen but it's always in the back of my mind.

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G870A using Tapatalk
never post in one of my threads again...
powerjoke= :cop:
Yup it sucks. At least you have good shops near you to get you going. I was an hr from the nearest town and 8 from the nearest performance shop when mine broke.
Are you going to do a build or just swap the broken stuff and get it back on the road?

Sent from my D5803 using Tapatalk
dang, that sucks worse...you're way out there in Canadia, eh?
it gettin a build...still trying to figure out how to maximize my dollar...
poor Russ :/

FAK!!!!

That sucks the big one buddy, hope Russ gets you right...

Hope you and your daughter are safe...:)
we went to the Cali coastline, spent a few days beach hopping from just north of Dana point and up...turned out to be a damn good week and provided me memories for a lifetime I otherwise wouldn't have gotten:angel:

8hrs later...

you guys fly
Sorry to here man!

Same way I lost both my cranks....

Now I just don't set cruse :D
interesting...I'm thinking I might just disable my cruise!

Talk about road side assistance! Catastrophic failures like that are the worst. But it looks like you will back on the road in no time!
Russ stepped up BIG TIME!
The forum did too
I can't thank you all enough
especially Russ' efforts...
:woott:
Some places don't change a windshield wiper that fast. Looks like you're in good hands. Good luck getting back up and going
:roflmao:
Sorry to hear Jason, that sucks but you are in great hands with Russ and crew!:thumb:
hey thanks Mark, you'll be getting some more of my business here, shortly...and Im gonna need a new tune:woott:

That's awesome Jason. Guess it wasn't all bad after all.

On the other hand. Lml crank, af cam, and the twins. If you go billet crank its gotta be stroked a bit!

Thanks Arek, this experience yeilded unexpected joy, f'er sure, wouldn't change it if I could.

Actually, Russ and I were talking about that, as I guess that billet cranks are a complete custom order? Well, he talked about it and I listened to the best of my Norwegian potential...

He said if you did anything, you'd want to de-stroke it...let it spin faster and move more air that way, if I understood him, the biggest reason given was: stroker kits typically gain greater amounts of torque off the low end and we make plenty of low end torque already with a turbo diesel. My understanding is destroking the crank would be better to make the power curve and delivery more linear and make power for a longer duration/window...

But I'm pretty simple mindedand I might not be reiterating that properly...

I can't afford all that...I wish I could tho!
I want the build to be as follows, O-ringed block, LML crank, carrillo's, 16.5/1 Ovals, 625's in for head studs and 2000 everywhere else, I like to get a 12mm stroker pump, billet hold downs and stud kit, AF cam, Hamilton Springs. I need to get my injectors cleaned, checked and spec'd and replace a few other things too, downpipe, manifolds and up pipes, upper and lower ball joints, wheel bearing and CV on passenger side and I've got a new set of brakes at home I need to get to Russ as well...

The twin kit and a billet crank is pretty much a pipe dream ;)

I'd get horsepower instead of the billet crank. But I've never broke a crank so I'm not the best to ask lol

Rodger that!
I've had a crank break and I'm still torn...It'd be nice if the billet cranks weren't so new and had more feedback available

Sounds like you're keeping your head up Jason :thumb: The perks and downfalls of this hobby/profession/drug... I'm now in the same boat as you with just recently snapping my crankshaft. The dollar amount really hurts but hey you can't take that money with you when you die!

If I'm not mistaken awhile back someone broke a billet crank too.
Balancing an LML and an AF cam are your best bets IMO.

Yeah man! Thanks Mike:hug:
it was her first time at the "ocean" and she was absolutely enamored by it:D
It was an amazing time!

My phone camera actually missed the smile she had, but caught that content grin. And that's how she was there, just totally calm and relaxed like she was at peace.

What's the point of being down, eh?
:woott:
Of course you gotta process it, F yeah it stings. I could just get a junkyard engine, or another reman, or I could even return it to being mostly stock and maybe even sell it. How would that feel tho...? Pretty crappy. Like you say man, you can't take it with you, this is my hobby and I can't stop when I'm so close to getting to the "Promised Land" :roflmao:

I question my sanity, but it's obviousally a choice to build it and incur this cost.
I feel pretty spoiled, blessed and fortunate that the option is there for me, that this hobby is even a viable outlet for my mischief and that I even get to own and drive the truck I do and live the life I have.

I'm a lucky bastard
:)

Cracked a piston with the cruise set after an 1100 mile drive to Florida the day before. Ive honestly used cruise maybe 10 times after that.

I really think there's something to this...
I've noticed the truck doesn't seem to maintain speed and calculate for variables as efficiently as I'd expect, it does seem to "load the engine" or "lug the engine" and hold a gear when I would chose to downshift, other vehicles I've owned aren't as smooth as GM's in cruise, but they don't do that. now I'm wondering if it has do do with the algorithm used for the cruise management tables in the ECM...or however that works cuz I'm totally talking out my azz like I understand any of that stuff:eek:

I'm totally spooked by my cruise control now, as I would think most everyone can understand after 2 catastrophic engine failures with cruise control on..
