My block had main studs in it when my first crank broke. Reused that block and haven't had any trouble in 10k miles and its been set on kill since this engine went in

HELLLLLLLLOOOOO WORLD! Long winded classic COCOAL, but I'm so impressed I have to express my thoughts about and thanks for this DuramaxDiesels community....

Hey guys and gals, and good morning to my Dmax familia :)

I've got very little battery life here, so I'm not going to upload pics yet, and I can't take the time to address everyone's kind words and thoughts right now, more than to say, THANK YOU:eek:

It's one thing (and still pretty cool) to be a part of the online banter, and watch from behind the screen and sculpted sentences from a keyboard. And its great to help someone out with parts and advise, brainstorming bad ideas to find a good one and general gearheads BS

Being "in it" and experiencing this community out in the real world...and being the guy that recieved the efforts of the community as a whole, in a time of need...well, that's something entirely different and significantly more special :)

The response to my plea for help, and all the concern you all have shown for me and my daughter, and help I received, its really overwhelming...welcomed and very much appreciated.

I'm kinda in awe

I can't express how wonderful it is to have you guys here in good times and bad...In a single word, its simply, comforting...I may just be a sap, but its an emotional thing for me. Really. This site, all y'all, it feels like an extended family, a "Brady Bunch" of gearheads, so to speak, and I truly feel like a part of it, thank you for that

YOU
Y'ALL make being a part of this community, on this site, the best experience a guy couldn't imagine..

THANK YOU, everyone...

Me and my daughter are safe! Thank you!

Now to address Russ and the crew at RPM (Jearmey and Malone)
Russ is THE FRIGGIN MAN! He may start a little later than the social norm, but I can tell you that man is not one "to be late"
And he more than makes up for it, burning the midnight oil

Stiaght to the point, no BS, stand up guy.
He was there to personally come get me and my daughter within 30min of initial contact, with a professional tow truck service.

He took my truck in SAME DAY and had the engine out and stripped down in, I believe less than 8 hours, even tho Russ says it was 8, I think he was being humble. And I know if I hadn't been there, they probably would've had it out and stripped down even faster  :thumb:

His lady brought my daughter food and he accommodated for my presence in his shop with valor.

And his crew is a couple down to earth guys that work hard and know what they're doing, birds of a feather, right ;)

YES! Talk about roadside assistance and going above and beyond the typical "call of duty"
I just can't say enough about what Russ did for me yesterday and in my brief evaluation of his character, moral and ethics, I have to say I'm Impressed, grateful and pleased that my truck is there at RPM

I really don't think I could've had any better luck, breaking down so far away from home.

As for what's going to happen next...
Well, some of you know I've been looking at other options, I am torn as to what II even WANT to do with it at the moment

But...there is a nice o-ringed LBZ block sitting at RPM right now...At the most Id snatch that block and get some Carrillo's, Ovals and an AF cam and BE DONE....(whisper) for now

It seems like an omen, or maybe its a test...
I dunno, this really couldn't have happened at a worse time in my life, not that ANY time is a "good time" to experience a crank failure

I'd say I love you guys, but Im afraid of what Brian might think, after all, he drives a Cummins now...

Anyways
Be good.
And
Think BIG, cuz you're thinking anyways:thumb:

And yes, it is a crank failure, right in front of(?) the #1 main
Block looked perfect, the rings hadn't even fully seated yet on that GM re-man.

Yes, I could fight the warranty process, but there is a specific way you have to do that and a drawn out time frame to get it done...

At best, I'm going to take the crank to GM and see what they'll do, I don't jump thru hoops well and even tho it was a significant "chunk of change" some things aren't worth the headache...

Believe me, I will make my thoughts clear and my opinions well heard and very known. I have a long standing relationship with the dealer I purchased the block from. Unfortunately, the final decision doesn't rest in their capacity to make, and like I said, I don't jump through hoops well...so Im just gonna have to play it out and see what happens.

I did document a portion of the tear down, but Im sure GM would've wanted to investigate critical aspects as it was tore down. I doubt I'll get much more than a "sorry, we would've liked to help"

I'm sure it would be warranty IF you never tuned it as that's low miles for any sort of failure. Depending on what the coverage is of course. But they need to do all the diagnosis and subsequent repair if warranty for you to be covered. Coming in with a box full of parts will likely result in a polite go pound sand.
But better off to get it built and balanced and be done.

I'd trust Russ over any genius gm would send out to do the warranty process anyways

Awesome to see the community help out though, best of luck to you Jason. sounds like your in great hands. I know you said the timing was horrible but hopefully after this you will have a little more peace of mind when Russ is done with it

Maybe you can get them to warranty the crank and give you a new one. It's something

Sucks to be so far from home, but glad it happened in Los Banos (well, for proximity to Russ, can't say there's any other reasons  )

Looks like you'll have it all sorted out before then, but my fiancé lives just north of Madera, and I'll be driving down sometime between Christmas and New Years. I'm sure you'll have something figured out by then, but figured I would put it out there for an option for you if you needed something drug back, or just a ride down.

Good luck on getting home! :thumb:

Thanks for updating the thread Russ. And thanks again for all your effort, help and taking me in and taking this on.

Been a rough week for me, the crank failure changed my entire trip and plan, but I'm enjoying the California coast and sunshine, so its not all bad :)

Moving forward:
O-ringed block
New LMM crank
Cast 16.5/1 Ovals have been ordered from Danville and should be at RPM next week, Carrillo's, 3388 AF cam, 625 studs, billet injector hold downs and stud kit...maybe a stroker pump. Selling the DP stg2 3794 for a DP 68R
I'm probably missing something, but that's the gist of it.

Hoping for 750whp, but honestly... I just want it to run
Russ thinks if everything goes well, I'll have a pretty awesome Christmas present
