yea i would bush it down. how hard is that to do? so Ed i should just stick with a GT42 and not the mag, or is there something else out there that you feel would work good. im not gonna lie i dont really know a thing about chargers. :)

i guess when i say i dont care about the track its mostly just becuase i dont want to have to deal with the saftey stuff, even tho i know i will have to deal with it for pulls.

"No safety stuff".......that puts you at 11.50 at the track.
Almost any 2.8" charger on top of a well built motor will get you to 11.50.
I will confirm this..........my 2.8 bushing in the 42 took ALOT of power away!!!
Also, I really don't think I would try to bush a 3.2" charger down to 2.8". (assuming that you will pull the 2.8 street class)
My old GT4094R was a sweet set-up!.......I'm sure you could run mid 11's with a good motor and tuning and still have AWESOME streetability! That might be a good choice?............prolly get the largest exhaust housing since you won't be towing.
GT4094R is 2.7_" so you would be in between the 2.6 and 2.8 pulling class.
I think you would be competitive around here in the 2.8 class..........but if you wonder out to the mid-west...........maybe not..........
Your other option is to go "outlaw" and shoot for high 10's without the rollbar. I'm stuck there for now.:D

its not hard to use a bushing but make sure it the right one for the charger.

Indeed......but do be carefull!............I learned that the hard way. It almost cost me a turbo!
MAKE SURE IT IS SECURELY ATTACHED!!! Harmonics.......or what-ever it was, caused mine to 'walk'. I got lucky and caught it in time.
My reference is to a bushing that you want to take in-and-out often.

Ed your gonna hate me but when you say "outlaw" what do you mean exactly? also i dont want to come off the wrong way but why did you change to a larger charger if you liked your 4094 so much. do i just need a roll bar to run faster then 11.5 or a full cage.

Loosely translated.........outside the law or rules. The term is normally used when some racers want to go beyond the existing rules.....usually with power-adders or wieght, etc.
My use of the term is more about the safety rules................maybe I should call it "running ROGUE".:D

I went to a larger charger cuz I wanted to go faster, silly!:p

11.50 requires a roll-bar.........9.99 requires a cage......as I understand it. I might be off on the cage times.

if you are planning on doing mostly sled pulling i would have to say that the 42 mag will be too big for the 2.8 class because when you bush it down i would have to assume that you would snuff the turbo out at WOT

But what do i know:dontknow:

alright well i guess i will not go with the mag and just stick with the gt42. which also means i will need a roll bar. who wants to help me with that.

well i guess i can let the cat our of the bag now. the main reason i was looking into the GT42Mag was becuase i was going to build myself a 7.1 Dmax. but i have since been you could almost say talked out of it. so with now not adding the more ci i think the gt42 will take care of all my needs.

GT4202R is going to like 2700-4000 (racing range)
The GT42mag is going to like 3000-4500

The factory valve train seems to do OK at 4500, but I feel safer with high speed springs. Keying the cam and crank should also be done.

so rods, stage 2 heads from SoCal, race cam, keyed crank, billet main caps, duel fuelers, 60% over injectors etc. be fine to run a GT42Mag at the right rpm or would i need something else. i know tuning as ALOT to do with it but also the parts.

im so glad this site is here for my stupid questions

yea that was part of the etc. just got tired of listing everything. pretty much i have in mind doing everything but making my engine a 7.1 as you can see from other posts it was thought of.

i am just not sure about this entire rpm range thing. lets say i go with the Mag and like Pat said i will have to run from 3000-4500 rpms now is that for racing to get the max out of it or just have all my tunes turn that high. also how well would running at 16:1 for comprestion ratio.

whats the limit on questions until you get banned:rolleyes:

I would NOT do forged pistons for a daily driver or really any street truck for that matter.
