Glad you got it done Tom,

Ever ask yourself, Why am i doing this??

Only people on this board can understand why people would tear apart a perfectly good truck!! I ask myself that all the time!

Yep...right about the time I was taking the third FPR bolt out.....

I would recommend removing the black t-stat tube on the LB7 too. Made it much easier the second time..
Thanks for posting that link at Bombers, Brandon. Those are the that Michael did to my FPR and pump.

This is what I did:
Moved A/C
Removed turbo inlet
Unplugged a bunch of stuff.
Drained coolant
Removed black upper water tube and T-stat housing. Hey.....did you know that the Tstats are rated 82*C and 85*C? I didnt, but it was embossed right in them. The back Tstat also has two bypass tubes in it. Neat stuff.
Unplugged FPR.
Moved rubber hose off nipple on CP3 and off fuel return line right above it.
Using 2" long T-25 from Lowes and my 1/4" ratchet/socket, I slowly loosened the bolts. Damn, they were tight.
Could only get one click of ratchet per turn....now that sucks.
Using just socket/T25 and my fingers, slowly turned the bolts out. Used magnet to get them out.
Popped FPR out.
Replacement in reverse (somewhat)

Why was the idle off? And is this just an issue with LB7's?

From what I understand, its a rail pressure issue. This thread explains a lot:

http://www.duramaxdiesels.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11891&highlight=regulator+surge

I just went out for a test drive (had to go get all the garage sale signs for the Mrs.) and it does surge a bit. Maybe 50 or so rpm?
Shouldnt be a big issue to fix. Tell you what, though.....the truck woke up.
BFG is right...its a PITA to do, but the benefits should outweigh the trouble. :)

because you are opening up the fuel metering sleeve in the regulator and the truck will idle around 21-26k psi at idle and will make the truck lope and knock really bad. It all just has to be tuned out and it takes awhile to get it right.

tunning was quite easy on mine 2 try's is all it took for me , not a fun job by i would never classify it as the worst thing i have had to do on my truck .

i got mine on and off with the bridge off and using a regular T25 1/4" drive, came out easy for me, then used a T25 screwdriver to get them all the way out. I just couldn't get the washer on the end of the FPR out without marring it...I was using a pick set and tried an allen wrench but it was realllllly in there. i decided to leave it alone for now and put it back on.

you cant get it out without marring it :D but it will still work fine if you bugger it up a bit , mine looked pretty beat up after and it still worked fine . the barrel has to be perfect but the retaining washer doesnt do much besides hold stuff together .

you think the fpr is bad, try putting a lbz pump in a lb7 without taking the intake bridge off! the lbz pump is definatly a fat bastard compared to the lb7. not fun. for sure the worst thing i have done to my truck. would rather take the twins back off 4 times then do this again. im back to stock now and that is for sure how it will stay until 2xcp3. not worht the gains to me.

Well well well.....looks like we woke the motor up, cause now Im barking the turbo when Im a bit aggressive on the pedal but not thru all the shifts. Its never done that before.

Tomorrow is going to be interesting.

Oh, its bad alright...and makes me wonder if my stock FPR was getting a bit worn out, so the truck wasnt "all it could be". BUT, I dont like hearing "chuff chuff chuff" from the engine compartment to get there.....

Your tune is getting tested tomorrow too, Trent. I think I can now handle that extra fuel/timing you added.

Man, I gotta get that downpipe installed. My EGTs are gonna be outrageous.

Could some one please point me in the direction of aquiring a new modified FPR for an LLY?

Buy one from one of our vendors, and if none of them sell one, Huckstorf Diesel has them. Then contact Michael (Superdiesel) and have him mod it for you. He WILL NOT steer you wrong. :)
