The people on tv always blow them out of proportion. When one is headed this way there will be a convoy of weather vans riding through for a few days before it hits, looking for that shaking stop sign to stand beside. When you get caught near the center of one though, the damage can be unreal. I couldn't imagine getting hit by a category 3 or above. Cat 1 can turn the place upside down.

I know the weather men are preaching Armageddon. They take off the jackets and roll up their sleeves thats when you KNOW they mean business!

But seriously for some it was bad and some lost their lives we were lucky!

Just got off duty from a shoreline city in CT. We have some severe damage. Winds and flooding far worse than Irene. Rain was a nonissue. People were better prepared than last year. Houses completely collapsed, and piles of lumber in the streets. sheds floating in the middle of what was a road. 5 feet of sand on some roads adjacent to the beach. Insurance companies are going to have another field day. And of course the trees on houses and powerlines.

Was almost night and day less than 3 miles from shore (as the crow flies) due to the main damage being from flooding.

The same damages occurred along the coast all the way north to Maine. It was amazing to see the videos of Salisbury mass and Seabrook NH...in fact I had a friend go surfing in Newport RI Monday night...i am surprised he came home. We were released from duty today, only having sat on standby for 2 days at Westover AFB...I'd have really liked to go to Maryland or Jersey and help out down there

I like how all the Government workers well maybe not all but some are pissed off at the NYC Mayor for wanting workers (city and teachers) to show up for work at shelters or anywhere to assist that cannot report to their regular jobs! Good for him!

Although you know it falls on deaf ears and then the Union reps step in saying aint their jobs! :spit:

Hope we didnt lose anyone from the site over the past few days. I've been out of power since monday nite. Had a flooded basement. Had to call my fireman brothers to come pump me out while i had to work. Woke up this morning, still no power. House is about 55 degrees inside. Kinda chilly to wake up to. Hope everyone is ok everywhere else tho. Just thought id chime in.

Understandable if it's in reference to my comment about NYC it was aimed towards fire or police as they are always on duty snow, ice, rain ,sun or windy.

It's other city workers in NYC like teachers and other because of the storm has shut them down ,he wants to ,since they are being paid, go help out elsewhere! To me that makes perfect sense. But it wont happen for the most part unless forced. :(
