All i know is that after modding the stock valve and installing the mike L PR spring...lockup is insane now:D I love it! I'll risk the broken crank:roflmao:

I'm not an expert like Mike, but I don't see why not. Obviously you wouldn't grind it as much as a stock valve because the transgo valve is already leaking some of the fluid off through the valve, but it should work. I guess Mike will set me straight if I'm wrong. Just don't do it until he says it's ok.

Should work but I never tried it.

Just so everyone understands what is going on, when the converter valve strokes, it sends oil through the passages of the pump through the converter lockup valve to the main line pressure valve. The two end lands of the converter valve are what holds the fluid that pushes on the main pressure valve. What the transgo valve does is bleed some pressure out between the lands past the ball and through the middle of the valve out the end. They actually have two different strength springs that allow you to have two different amounts of pressure drop. When you grind the stock valve you are dumping enough fluid that it doesn't build any pressure to push the main pressure valve at all. So if you grind a small amount on the transgo valve, it should accomplish the same thing, but I just don't know if you can go too much and create too big of an internal hydraulic leak that would cause problems.

I'm completely confused although it does not take much at times, 5 or 6 six speed transmission? Yes I read it from the start and have been following the thread since 3-1....

You're in the wrong part of the transmission. That picture you posted is a transgo shift kit which goes in the valve body. We're talking about the transgo lockup valve which goes in the pump assembly.

Yea I'm not sure if I'd recommend it if you havent tried it... theoretically it would be fine as long as someone was using their head, but you know...

Hey if someone here wants to do it, go for it. But know you are doing it without guarantee and not "according to" anyone
I feel a lot more comfortable telling someone to grind a little on a valve land than to guess at a spring. Let's be honest, no one is selling a kit for this. We aren't providing any measurements or giving out blueprints on how to perform these modifications. Do you see anything incorrect about what I said? Can you think of any good reason why it wouldn't work?

Well, only because people's interpretation of directions can be different sometimes. People's interpretation of "that'll work" are insanely different most of time. I agree with you that it should work fine Josh, however, there certainly is a level of liability in suggesting a technique that one has not done or seen done before.

Grinding the transgo valve; I doubt the ball would ever come off its seat. Pressure would take the path of least resistance.

Besides once someone does a modification on there own they take all liability for the action and anything that happens there after until it is rebuilt by a professional, ie mike, George, Calvin's, tony, all the big name builders.

I'm in no way trying to say either side is right wrong or indifferent as I can agree with both, but there is a certain level of research and question an individual should do prior to any modification. That is all

I have built my trans and its still on the stand so I would like an opinion before I install,I have installed the transgo converter valve and spring but I also have the original.Should I put the longer spring in and call it done or mod the stock valve, I have the earlier one so do I plug the hole on the original one as well as grind a flat? Thanks for the advice in advance.

To use the early stock valve you would have to plug the end along with grinding as shown. I prefer using the stock valve. I tig weld them shut but you have to be very carefull to do so.
