Ive always done it the "flat tire" way, like Mike states.

Personally verified with pressure gauge that this way has "zero" cutback.

Is this right? I modified the stock valve from an 05 in the pics. Too much flat? Not enough?

If you leave the ball out of the Transgo valve you will need a longer spring to take up the slack left by the missing 3/8 ball. Otherwise the valve will rattle and the converter clutch may do strange things.

Exactly what you told me 2 years ago when I built my trans.
Picked up a longer spring from the hardware store and used that. Never had a problem with lock up.

I figured you were only being nice because I bought a converter from you and you didn't want me to F it up :roflmao:

So does the ball have to be removed from the transgo valve and a longer spring installed? Or can you leave the ball and spring that comes with the transgo kit and just mod the transgo valve by grinding the flat on the end lobe?

Either grind the stock valve or leave the ball out of the Transgo with longer spring.

so do I mod the transgo valve and leave the check ball in or just loose the ball? Thanks for the reply.swapping the built trans on the weekend so want to make sure I got it clear and don't f it up.

Did you get the answer already? If it wasn't clear, then Mike's last post answered it. The way I read this was you were thinking to both grind it and remove the check ball.

Why don't you grind the valve and leave the ball alone?

Can you grind the trans go valve and leave the ball in it and accomplish the same thing as removing ball and getting a longer spring? If you can then I'll definitely do that but per what mike just posted above was remove ball and install longer spring

I'm not an expert like Mike, but I don't see why not. Obviously you wouldn't grind it as much as a stock valve because the transgo valve is already leaking some of the fluid off through the valve, but it should work. I guess Mike will set me straight if I'm wrong. Just don't do it until he says it's ok.
