Yeah the WU type does affect the cards differently. But with the cost, heat, power usage of the 460 compared to the 480 (for example) the 460 is a great deal. It will be interesting when I start to add multiple cards to the new setup. I just saw that the parts were delivered on Friday to work so Monday I'll start putting it together and may be folding by that night. :happy2:

I can't wait to see that machine going Rob. :D

Like I said, this is fixing to get expensive.

I ordered 2 EVGA 768-P3-1362-TR GeForce GTX 460 cards from NewEgg for $296.98 total which have since gone up.

***You can get an additional 10% off all video cards from NewEgg until 11/12/2010 with coupon code: EMCZZYR24 :thumb: :D

I also ordered 2 Thermaltake W0158RU 650W PSU to run the cards that I am fixing to start stacking. These will be supplemental to the 850W that is already in my machine.

I'm not going to change my MOBO or processor since they still work but my MOBO only has 2 PCI-E x16 slots. It has 4 PCI-E x1 and 2 PCI-E x4 slots though. Since I am only going to be using the cards for folding and not gaming, I really do not need the full PCI-E x16 slot as the pinouts from a PCI-E x1 are just repeated 16 times. So, the plan is to either buy adapters which are around $23/piece or modify my MOBO by cutting out the back of the slot.

If I cut out the back, the cards may still hit some of the caps on the MOBO. I guess I will just wait until the cards get here. If it hits, I could just get a cheap riser and cut it.

I also am picking up 2 used EVGA GTX 260 for $140 total from Craigslist guaranteed not to be DOA. Supposed to go pick them up Tuesday.

What the hell am I doing? It's already an obsession.

2 nice boxes of parts were waiting for me. Now I just have to wait until I get home before I can start playing with them. :( Awful hard just staring at the parts and not being able to do anything with them. :spit:

But sadly, we are no longer the #1 Fastest Growing Team. In fact, one of the teams we just blew into the weeds

Well hell, I quit. :D

I tell you this though, I am glad to lag behind you big boys with expensive toys. There are two machines listed in build in progress that are going to rock. And there are already a few that scream. I just can't compete. It will be fun to watch all you scream through the points as time goes on. :thumb:

Just got the new machine online. :happy2: The first GPU WU looks to take about 75 minutes to run. Way better then the 6 or 7 hours my other machine was doing (or the 10 hours the Celeron was taking). I'll load up the SMP client tomorrow and see what happens there. Here's a screen shot I took with Fahmon.
