For those on a budget, and wanting better gameplay as well as FAH performance:

GTS450 - $89.99, (after $20 MIR + free $50 Tom Clancy game) should yield 10k+ PPD.

For those with "low profile" cases,

GT430 - $64.99, about 8k a day I've read, and works with smaller powersupplies. It's the most potent low-profile card, and it fits in full height cases as well. Looks like the bastards forgot the low-profile faceplate though, which has to be purchased separate.

No, I'm just a cheap bastage. Who has a lot of "old" computers still sitting around in my office, and was looking for a cheap way to use them.

What sucks is a few months ago I put video cards in 4 machines, all ATI.

Footnote - I should have snapped up the $89 GTS450. They went up $20 last night.

We should break into the 3k rank shortly. Also should hit 1000 WUs by tonight :mike:

Also we should expect to break 2.5 million points by end of year at our folding rate right now. That will put us around the 1,500th position (out of 189,829 teams). :thumb:

~I like watching the stats

I'm not sure this has been said but it looks like performance of video cards depends on WU type. Here is my stock form gtx 460 running a 11218 unit. Actual numbers that is for ns/day.

I'm just creeping along with my laptop which is slow as hell and a desktop with a nVidia card that isn't supported by the GPU clients.

I ordered a couple of GTX 460 768MB cards so I should get going a little better in the next week. I read somewhere that even when overclocked they were almost as fast as a 480 using around 25% less power. I guess I'll find out for myself.

I also have a couple of old desktops in the storage unit that I may pull out and upgrade. Have my own little farm. . . maybe.

This could get expensive. :damnit:

Yeah the WU type does affect the cards differently. But with the cost, heat, power usage of the 460 compared to the 480 (for example) the 460 is a great deal. It will be interesting when I start to add multiple cards to the new setup. I just saw that the parts were delivered on Friday to work so Monday I'll start putting it together and may be folding by that night. :happy2:

Here's what I've learned:

460/465/470/480 cards are all "underutilized" by the GPU3 program. You can get a "little" better performance by upgrading, but not much. In the future, they might take full advantage of the additional unused cores, but for today, it's nearly a wash.

That being said, true gaming performance goes up dramatically as you upscale the cards, because most games use more of the cores in the cards than FAH does.
