When I tried to run the ATI 5450 cards in GPU with the SMP, it reduced SMP performance by 40%. To put that in perspective, a 24 hour job become a 34 hour job. Since the bonus is calculated by how fast you return the WU, it actually makes less when running both than running just the SMP.

I see, must be an ATI thing. I paused the SMP job for the whole GPU WU and didn't see any difference in total time TPF. Must be the GTX4## advantage.

Congrats to John for being the first to break 100 WU's!:thumb:

WOW!! We are approaching doubling our score in just a couple days. :D

We are set to break under 7000th very soon, and over 300k points!

Not sure what's up, but my machines aren't doing anything.

Edit: Nothing appears to be wrong. Looks like all are chugging away at 24hrs/each work units.
I've found the 6701/6702 jobs yield a lot less points and take twice as long.

Mine are doing the 6701 projects.... Oh well, they gotta get done too. Are your computers stuck on those Pat?

Here's a HFM.NET shot of the computer I updated on Thurs. Roughly 20k points per day. It got a $260 AMD X6, and a $150 MSI GTX460 TwinFrozr II:

I haven't begun to really play with overclocking it. It's running very cool with factory heatsink. There is a switch on the motherboard to turn it up 10% (that way if it doesn't boot, you can de-clock it and boot) and that's all I did.

It won't run SLI. I use these because the "on-board" video is the best out there today (ATI HD4290). It will run 2 monitors without a video card added, and have good performance. My lab equipment will get 3 monitors each, so adding a $40 card will get it done, and that's how they are configured.

This is the machine that had an AMD X2 (unlocked to X3) in it, and was my "test mule" before I built the other two machines.

Problem is, the GTX460 doesn't work well with my CAD software, so it's going back to the ATI card.

I like the price of that gtx card you listed and also the price of the processor. Not a bad price to put a much better computer together than I have at the moment. My family is a facebook gaming family and that's about all unless it has it's own console. Thanks for the advice also.

Have you tried a couple different graphics drivers? I usually have to try 3 to 5 versions of the nVidia drivers before I find the one that works right for all my games and doesn't crash randomly. That is the one bad thing about nVidia--their drivers kind of suck.

Of course, there is always just a chance it won't work. nVidia makes the Quadro line for CAD and rendering, and the GeForce line for games, and they don't always cross over so well.

On edit: We're already team 6,3xx! I think we can get 6,000 or better by tomorrow at this rate.

It's weird. It's "stable", but I can view the drawing 3 ways:

Wireframe only
Wireframe + rendered
Rendered.

I use the Wireframe + rendered a lot, and the nVidia will only do "either or", but not both. The ATI card would.

Besides, even the $50 ATI card was just fine for CAD, this 460 is WAY overkill. :D

Hey Pat, you mentioned those 6701 projects being slow and low points, mine are about 50 minute tpf. This is with an AMD Turion x2 2.1ghz. Have any pointers on increasing the tpf for this laptop?

With laptops, you need to make sure they don't sleep. Go to power management, set sleep to never, but you can still allow the screen shut down.

Other than that? Not much. This Apple notebook is dual-core 2.4ghz and only generates 381 PPD on full scream.
