That first 486 I ever bought (the month the 486-33 was released), was finally retired last month. It ran every day for 20 years. Original chip, mobo, powersupply, floppy still. It had the HDD crash, but was still running. They don't build them like that anymore.

No kidding, that's unbelievable. I bet I still have a 10mb hard drive that will put it back into service. Heck, I might even have a couple of 1mb chips of ram for it.

Not sure if anyone else has had trouble with the smp client but I have with errors and lost log files.

I installed FAH 6.30 client as a windows service and noticed the FAHLog was not as accurate and did not have much info. After some reading, I added -verbosity 9 to arguments in the config file. Now, I have much better reporting as well as a detailed error log.

Guess I missed this.

I have to say that whoever was in charge of the basic software interface (input handling, file handling, etc) wasn't very good. 35 years ago, you'd get a D- minus for the SMP client interface. And I'm talking H.S. level programming classes. It's not that it's primitive, I can work with primitive. It's got some serious bugs and no input or file validation on the client side.

If you are running XP, do not change your SMP client config settings. It's pretty risky.

If you decide to change graphics cards, you won't have fun. Their software will go nuts. Their uninstall doesn't work. You need to hunt down the files after uninstalling that they left behind or it goes schitzo.

Pat you need to put your work computers on a seperate name like community or something so you can compete on your personal cpus and gpus

The problem is that it takes a few days to get SMP bonus, which quadruples your points. After we hit 6000, I'll separate things out.

I really want to isolate that AMD 1090T I just put in to see how much better it does than the 4-core, but I figure I can do that after we get listed.

Well that solves me posting a question about if anyone else if having trouble downloading jobs. I updated my cards and now can't get new jobs. Time to go hunting.

Rob, I found out I had to delete the work folder in the GPU client and the log files. Also the queue.dat file. After doing that, it checked for the type of card and downloaded a new core and all was well.

Well I just did an uninstall and deleted every file I could find for the program in the 'program files' and 'Doc & settings' areas and it still won't download a WU.

Only problem with that is the DD group would not get credit for it. If anything I would say put them all under 1 name.

No, he's right. I only combined them to take advantage of the bonus points.

At first I was going to have each machine have a username, but it would take 10 days to get bonuses. Hence my large # of names. McRat is just the Macbook. Obviously a Mac stinks at this when you consider it was the first computer I put it on, and it's been running SMP jobs since day one.

When we hit 6000, they will give us "per day, per week" stats for each user. Certainly you can do that with Fahmon, but ExtremeOverclock's table looks easier to use, and it shows actual points, not "guessimate" points like FAHmon does.

At that point, I'll make sure each computer has it's own name, and wait the 10 days to see the results.

I just did this last night. It sucked.

When it crashes, look carefully at the log file, and it will show the path of the Work Directory. Thing is, this is a hidden directory by default. You first need to go to folder settings and find the Unhide button.

For Win7 it's something like /documents and settings/users/owner/application data/folding at home or something.

If you search (make sure it's advanced "hidden files") look for FAHcore*.* IIRC.

For XP, the path is similar but different. Somewhere hidden in the Documents and Settings directory.

Did you change GPU types? I mean from ati to nvidia? If so, you may need a new client. Did you down load the GPU3 client and try that?

Both cards are ATI. The Celeron only had the systray client loaded before. Now I loaded the GPU to speed things up. But last I looked at it, it could not get a work assignment either. Basically this is all I'm getting running the GPU in verbose mode to get info:

[03:35:15] + Attempting to get work packet
[03:35:15] - Will indicate memory of 2046 MB
[03:35:15] - Connecting to assignment server
[03:35:15] Connecting to http://assign-GPU.stanford.edu:8080/
[03:35:16] Posted data.
[03:35:16] Initial: 0000; + No appropriate work server was available; will try again in a bit.
[03:35:16] + Couldn't get work instructions.
[03:35:16] - Attempt #2 to get work failed, and no other work to do.
Waiting before retry.

1) Try again to first uninstall, then hunt down the hidden Work directory. Remove it all.

2) Use the GPU3 6.32 client only. I know it says nVidia, but the other one wouldn't work on my 2009 ATI 5450 (cheapo) card. They are having a lot of trouble with ATI support, which blows (I like ATI better).

3) If all else fails, post on http://foldingforum.org/ which is their tech support forum. Be prepared though, they are a little ... uh... "stuffy" would be a polite term.

Their servers seem to go down a lot. I've had trouble connecting a couple times, when everything else online worked.

Oh, if you want to see stats now, before we get to 6000th place, you can get them on here. Well, it goes down a lot too, but works most of the time.
