Here is what Tom had to say.
"IMO, what the DP Staff did to Pat and Kat in regards to their video link being removed from their Bonneville record thread simply because their website name is advertised ON THEIR TRUCK was heavy handed and rude.
IMO, the Place today has the responsibility to the entire Duramax community to allow members to post achievements and pertinent information regarding Duramax performance and reliability, irregardless of where that info originally comes from. In my 5 years on this board, I've come to see that any major upgrades developed for the Dmax have been shown here first, or they show up shortly afterward. No other form of media can boast that.
Look, I understand that, years ago, Chad and Nick added the "no competing website links allowed" to the site rules because the Place was still "competing" for members with other GM Diesel sites. They didnt want to lose people to other sites. The old Staff here was very zealous in this regard, to the determent of the Place in general.
Fast forward to the present. The Place is larger than any other GM Diesel site, and has turned into an on-line encyclopedia for info regarding the Duramax engine and the GM HD truck line. No other GM Diesel truck website can match this site for the sheer amount of information and knowledge that it has. I know this from experience. All the other GM Diesel websites will never be able to match this site for all its info, so the Place has no peer in the Dmax website world to be "afraid" of anymore.
IMO, its time for the "competing website" link ban to be removed, except for out-and-out spamming by the other website. There is no need for it to be so "total" any more. Its one thing when information about an accomplishment or breakthrough is posted. This should be allowed. Its another when a non-S/V starts posting his/her products in the tech forums, and that should be dealt with.
Censorship has cost this site many a valuable member in the past. Staff bias toward one vendor over another in certain subjects also contributed to the deletion of valuable information that EVERYONE here may be able to use.
In the case of Pat and Kat, they are/were not coming to the Place stating, "Come join our website to see what we did!" They were not openly advertising their website. Their video was not an advertisement for their site, either.
They were, as they always have, doing something to further Duramax performance in general by showing what one family can do when they have a goal and determination. I can not name any other person/people/family that are bigger Duramax enthusiasts than the McSwain family.
We all have to remember that we all have a common interest in hearing/reading about the latest concerning the Duramax and GM trucks in general. Censoring information just because of "where it came from" or because a Staff member had an issue with a person years ago needs to stop. We are better than that.
PLEASE DO THE RIGHT THING AND PUT THE VIDEO LINK BACK UP."
If you would like more Ray, I will PM them too you.
