His turbo of choice wasn't ready, so he put the Aurora 5000 he already had back on the truck.

This just in.. Jeff Dean's tow-rig ... 3/4ton 8.1 liter chevy manual transmission has failed him somewhere in the mountains..

So what did Jeff do? Put the tow rig in the trailer and pulled it home with the racer.. :D Let's see truck 1, 2 or 3 do that ;)

He has pictures and video... I told him I'd pay good money for them :D:D:D

Sorry he had problems :( But, glad he was able to continue home. I know what it is like being stuck on the side of the road with a trailer. One of the reason Casper is getting a hitch put back on :cool2:

You know, before he left, he was saying he wanted to tow back with the Dmax, but his passenger was complaining that he couldn't recline his seat in the regular cab.

I would imagine he's riding in Jeff's nicely appointed trailer..

I was supposed to go with him and I was a bit leary of 24hrs of extended cab chevy driving, but his trailer has a living quarters in it with generator and TV etc.. :D So I doubt anybody is really suffering..

Not goin on defense of my engine choice, though I will openly agree and disagree here: i wouldnt think truck 1 would be up to the task as its a 12v and the adjustability would take too long, so hes outta the picture on something like this. truck 2 could be tuned with different programmer settings and likely tow whatever. that truck is crazy like that...

truck 3, i dont know, as i am not familiar with it-

I also believe the second place truck could have done it. Al sometimes uses his truck to tow a skid steer loader. It street driven and is used for work.

Josh, thus why I said that- Al's truck is badarse. Seen it dyno at bullydog last summer, and could only imagine what the time between then and now could have been done to the truck- and back then his numbers were 750/1400 or so on no.2 only...

no worries brayden- i dont know truck 3, but as i said, #1 theres a chance he could do it though at same time i dont know, a good bit of his power comes from 3 stages of nitrous.... dont know how stable his EGTs would be with a twin turboed 12v running a lot of non-adjustable fuel, as far as towing goes-

though in my mind, #2 truck is more than capable of doing it IMO as a lot of his power is adjustable and he is drug free as far as I know...

A few things

Hats off to the Dmax crowd!! As for the ether start dodges, boo, and the one I saw spit its drive shaft at Bakersfield haha. Also on my way home from work yesterday guess who I saw driving through Reno? Nick D'Amico towing his broke ass truck. It was pretty funny. Once again great job to the guys who represented the duramax crowd, especially the ones that drove home :D.

The 1st place truck was not running 3 stages of nitrous. He used to, but doesn't anymore. He got a new twin setup that pushes more air than his last setup, so he doesn't rely on nitrous as much.

You are correct about Al's truck being diesel only.

I didn't see anyone using ether to start, so there's really no need to boo anyone. The Dodge that won was a very well setup, competitive truck, and laughing at someone's misfortune is pretty immature, IMO. I don't believe Nick's truck was broke either. He did trash a turbo on Tuesday, but it was repaired on Wednesday and, as far as I know, was still in one piece after the pull that same day.

Thanks for the clarification Josh- When I saw the 1st place truck in person he was running nitrous still. I also reckon when he was in Diesel Power mag sometime last year, he was still running it. Not sure how long ago that was though. Impressive truck none-the-less.

As far as the ether thing goes, I have only seen a few trucks ever start on ether, and they were 99% 12v cummins running insane amounts of timing, and they cant start without it. This said, the trucks I have seen huffing ether were all sled pulling trucks, which leads me to wonder: Are there 12v drag trucks that need to suck the ether can to turn over before a race?

Oh, and Josh, do you know what #'s Al put down on the dyno at the challenge?

EDIT: Gotta add I agree with Josh that laughing at somones misfortune, even if you dont like the person, is pretty un-sportsman like.

I have laughed at one person's misfortune at a sled pulling event, only because he was ignorant and running his mouth about how powerful his truck was, and he hooked up, and next thing you know he had a pretzled drive shaft and a sheared CV joint, from the same pull.

Have you seen the truck Pat was talking about? It was a drag race, and it definately needed ether.
The ether start thing was a joke referring to what Pat was talking about earlier....
And it was funny to see Nicks truck in my hometown on the way home from work without knowing what the hell was going on. Not laughing at failure, everyone fails. I didnt say I think it is funny that he broke his shit, just funny that I saw him in Reno, on my way home from work in a half stupor with my ears still ringing from all the equipment. Take it easy guys this isnt the dieselplace...;)

I am not mad or trying to argue in any way Mr. I highlight in red. I am not a huge fan of the guy myself, and for reasons other than DP issues. I was simply agreeing with Josh that its not very mature to laugh at others misfortunes, though in your case I would have probably laughed as well

haha i highlight in red because i am lazy. nick wasnt driving though, and i actually honked and waved, and continued on my way. he was on the phone and looked rather pissed, but still waved back. i didnt even know when the challenge was and couldnt put 2 and 2 together to realize why he was on that part of I-80. I knew the challenge was in Utah, and that he was there but I was too retarded at that point in the day.
