Since I was out mowing the lawn and working on the little truck, let me specify what I meant....

Mistakes happen. Everyone makes them. But there is a huge difference between an honest mistake and outright negligence.

In this case, nobody was to blame as it was an honest mistake. But, I wanted to know what exactly had happened because of what I have planned in the future. If I build (Evan, I'll remember to call you for help ;)) my trans, I sure as shit want to know what NOT to do based on my planned power level. Even if I have someone else build it, I still want to know what they are doing instead of "taking their word" for it, and how else do I get edumacted but by learning from my and other's mistakes.

So there ya go. If we dont talk decently and openly about mistakes we make or find, nobody learns and nobody gains. This forum used to be all about that...learning and moving the entire hobby forward. Lets get it back to that high level.

I'm installing one of Evan's kits at the moment, and have to say I fully appreciate the time him and Mike have taken to answer questions on this forum in the past. There are others of course but I am still blown away with all the info they share from learning the hard way.
I have text and called Evan a few times and he has never acted busy or in a rush. He always responds or calls back quickly and is very helpful.

Even if I fit the description of a backyard builder (assembler) I have a lot of respect for these two.

Best thing you can do is get with Evan or Mike L and have them set you up.

I'm not so sure it was a mistake. If catman had this Trans build prior to the new power goals and back when it was built, had told him a power level he was after (far less than now), there wasn't a mistake made

For instance, when I had mike build the Trans in my truck the first time I told him I would t want anymore power than a stock turbo could give me. I was soon blinded by hp and after building the engine, I tore a c3 apply piston. When Mike tore it down, I got the classic "you f***ers always say your only going for so much hp, then go well beyond that and the Trans don't hold". The torn apply wasn't the fault of the high hp but my clutches we're seeing the signs of demise had I kept driving on it. Part of it was also bad tuning from my first efi live tunes.

Needless to say, the Trans was refreshed to hold the power I'm at now and keep on truckin. No one is to blame and there was no mistake. Just me going beyond the capabilities of what I originally wanted. I have a feeling that was the case here

Not the case. I built this trans with Mikes help in Jan 2010, beat on it for 40K at 600 hp, built motor went in and due to funds I wanted to get it running before I sunk more $ into a trans since I was well into 20K into getting the motor running. 5 days after getting it running it layed down 790 with 300 miles on the fresh built motor. (that was sept) I know the trans was hurt so I hauled to the builder did all billet (except he P2 hub) and this build it was with him from November 2015 to march 2016. I wasn't going to mess with it anyway during the winter. it came home and ran 1 day and 100 overs came out and the 400% overs and 2nd cp3 went in. 1500 miles (maybe) the new converter went in and she was done.

What size c3 steels come In a gmax 6-3 Raybestos kit? Mine was built by a local guy who just slapped in the suncoast kit. Nothing is billet so I know I can't push it to far. I don't plan on going any farther than 600-650hp

You've got .067's in there more than likely.

Cool thanks man. So once the motor pops it's time to send the trans off to mike or Evan. That's gonna go over well with the wife :roflmao:

Awesome! Glad you got it all squared away. Evan an Mike are great guys and really are in this sport for the long haul and actually care about people and their trucks, not the money.

Cant wait to get my truck back up to Evan for a converter swap. :thumb:

1058 to either 1053-1 or MLG-K :thumb:

So far I'm really happy with the 1053-1 drove 10 miles or so. Right away with a quick brake stall it's 400-500 over what the ATS would do before it spins the tires. Before at 2400 it was pushing through the brakes on 4wd.

Holy shit this transmission is badass! Loving this converter too. it locks so hard at part throttle and it shifts great at WOT with the lockup engaged. I never used that locker much but now it is right between the seat pads incase I need it quick If I stab the throttle. this converter doesn't stayed locked without it at WOT. hunts back and forth which is what suncoast said it would but part throttle is fine.

Does your tcm tune have the modified slip inhibit tables to keep the converter locked?

I have heard such good things about the 1053-1. How does it couple? My 1058 is crap and doesn't couple well at all if at all and I want to avoid that if im making the swap. Mike talked some good word in on the K that has me leaning towards it, but Evan said the 53-1 is great and what he uses in his daily driver. 750hp max is all i ever plan to be at. :roflmao:

it couples fine doesn't seem to drive much different then the old converter but when you need stall and rpm's it get up theres I have seen it stall over 3K when the charger comes on.
