It is indeed strange you swapped converters and then had a failure. When you pull it apart you will have all your answers.

Idk that I myself would have any answers other then "yep that's jacked up" but why lol. Maybe but I don't build transmissions so. I guess I can send the converter to get get cleaned and checked and pull it apart it'll be a week or so before I have time to pull it back out. I have one lift in the shop and need it for other jobs.

Talked to suncoast and they said they will take the converter back and clean/check no charge. Told him the story he thought possibly a wiring issue which my harness doesn't looked damaged but I guess it possible. I'm wonder what it will do when I get it back on he lift and disconnect the rear connector and see if it goes into limp mode and has a forward gear. In guess not since it got so hot. I know it's going to get torn down and repaired.

Wow that's great news from Suncoast. It's pretty nice of them to do that for you. :thumb:
I, as I'm sure many here are, curious to see what you find in that tranny.

got the truck back in the shop tonight and did some troubleshooting. if I disconnect the round plug it doesn't stick in reverse and has a forward gear 3rd like in limp mode. tried a different TCM and the same and disconnected the tap shifter and no change if the round connector is connected. so is it a electrical issues? what is causing it to have only reverse when the connector is plugged in but not when its unplugged? any ideas? it has not clutches tied up when the connector is unplugged.

What if you plug it all back in, and use a scan tool to command 3rd gear?

First is C1 and C5, reverse is C3 and C5, third is C3 and C1. Your C3 is most likely heated to the point of being warped/welded together and is constantly engaged. It doesn't work when plugged in because of the massive tie up being caused by C3 being engaged with C1 and C5. You have a trans brake. Congrats.

so reverse must be a lower ratio maybe? is that why it goes in reverse when first is being asked for? path of least resistance?

I pulled the trans too. I'm going to go through it and sent the converter back tomorrow. But there was clutch material everywhere so I have to go completely through all of it. Just hope it doesn't have again lol. Zf6 swap of it does lol

Take pictures if you want help. Assume everything is wrong until you prove it right. Air check each clutch pack before you disassemble. Lay everything down on a clean towel as it came apart and take a picture.
If you tear it apart and throw everything in a pile; you will miss something important.

If only everyone would do that ^^^^ before coming on here asking what they did wrong...... Not only would they learn a lot, it would be much easier to help them diagnose the issue.

Evan and I texted back and forth while I took the Vb apart and he didn't see anything stuck I did air check the clutches before I dropped the trans with the Vb out and they all sounded and acted normal. Is it possible that the c3 was about to go? The oil looked fine when I swapped the converter but I didn't drop the pan to see if there was clutch material in it before the tie up. Before I took any solenoid a off I used a seal pic to manually move every spool and they all moved freely. I thought the exhaust back fill was stuck but I was moving it the wrong way.

Yeah c3 was welded together. This didn't happen from the converter it was going wel before that. Crazy it happened at the same time I swapped the converter. Doing new c2 c3 c4 and the sc 1053-1
