I call big spoon :woott:

Are you part of ADC on Facebook? Going to the meet Saturday night?

Are most of you just disabling the TCC slip inhibit and tweaking the apply tables, or are you keeping slip inhibit enabled and tweaking that?

All I have done is disable the tcc slip all together then I adjust the ramp up rate in the 600rpm/600ft lbs range to 1750 kpa so if there is any excess slip, it locks it hard. I only went to 1750 just to keep things safe. Works great.

How did you go to 1750? That table won't take any values higher than 1000 kPa. Did you mean 750?

What I would like to do is make the 05 OS downshift as fast as the 5854 OS its seems to take half the time to do the 5 to 4 shift as the 05 OS. any idea why this is? I'll be messing with the lock table but hate to give up my 01.

BUT...the kicker is that the 2004-2005 LLY TCM does have a huge redeeming factor that none of the other TCM OS's have.[/B] The 04-05 LLY OS does NOT release TCC under part-to-full-throttle kickdown when the TCC is locked. So with an 04-05 LLY TCM OS, when you're on the highway in 5th locked, and you stuff it to go pass someone, the TCC stays locked through the 5-4 WOT downshift and never unlocks.

2001-2004 LB7 TCM OS's, under any locked downshift above 10% throttle, the TCM unlocks TCC, performs the downshift, and then relocks TCC. Its annoying because when you go to pass someone on the highway and do a WOT 5-4 downshift, the TCC unlocks, and you're sitting there, RPM's screaming, not accelerating for a second or so before the TCM relocks TCC and you actually start getting the power to the wheels again.

The only conditions in which a 2001-2004 LB7 TCM OS will do a locked downshift is under 10% throttle when in tow/haul mode...for grade braking purposes (because that would degrade grade-braking performance to unlock TCC during a grade-braking-downshift). Like I said, its annoying and I dont know why Allison programmed it that way on 2001-2004 TCM OS's, and then decided otherwise on 04-05 TCM OS's.

Ben

Ben,

Is it possible to flash in a 2005 LLY TCM OS in a 2004 LB7 truck to try out the TCC locked 5-4 downshift? From what I have read, the G solenoid in LLY is the only difference. My truck being an early 2004, I don't think my tranny has it in there since it's an LB7 and not a 2004.5 LLY. Didn't know if that would cause any issues?

I believe that the ramp rate refers to the change in pressure over time. Should have the units of psi/sec or kpa/sec. Ramp rate is how quickly the pressure is changing. In other words, this is how fast the TCC locks up... Higher rates lock more suddenly. The maximum TCC pressure is not increased. The maximum pressure is just reached in less time.

Heres my take on this new way to lock the convertor. I did this and after learnign the trans again on my hot tune in T/H I could tell that it was locking in 2nd gear and pulled harder. but using the 05' trans tune to utilize this table I still do not like anything about the 05 ally tune. So in short I will be going back tot he good 01 OS and a tap shifter to have OD lockout and will be in the market for a lockup box....

Hey Ben! you got any sweet deals on your tap shifter lockup box coming up?

I did not try any other then my 05' tune. as most seem to agree the 01 ben was talking about is the best by far.

That doesnt mean one from an 02 wont work for you. im running my 02 tune, steve is running his 05 tune, and brian is running his 03 tune.

personally, i feel some guys have the 01 tcm tune in because they have not dialed in their tune to make it defuel correctly on their stock tune. throwing the 01 tune in is their "bandaid" so to speak. this is not accusing anyone here of that, just stating there could be other underlying issues as to why.

The problem i have with the 05 tune is it seems to try to be too smart, I honestly don't want my ally to continually learn. thats why i like the 01 OS tune due to it seems to do a quick learn and then it doensn't matter what setting I run on it just shifts good. unless someone knows how to keep the new OS from learning and changing all the time?

all the OS continually learn. the 01 is just the slowest at it. on mine, if i really force myself to conserve fuel for two weeks, then nail the throttle, it will hiccup a couple shifts (mostly flair). but after that one run, it clicks them right off. now if i give it 3/4 or so throttle and let it learn those shifts after one or 2 runs, it will click the WOT runs off without an issue. going 3/4 throttle keeps it from flairing and doing nasty things. even the 01 tune would do that same thing to me but in two weeks i have 200-300 miles on the truck. there is no getting around that, so i drive a little harder then i normally would jsut to keep the trans WOT settings as they should.

this is where mike and other suggest you keep a spare ECM that only sees WOT to pop in for track times and what not. its been suggested to use T/H the same way but i cant do that as i tow alot.

there is a difference in knowing what your trans is doing and unless you are experienced enough to tell, you can run the issues together and never actually fix the problem the best way. thats why i posted my previous post. shitty shifts at WOT can seem like its bad tuning or poorly learned trans or even a bad trans all together. i feel as though alot of guys read these threads and go "oh hey mine acts that exact same way" so they throw a 01 tcm tune in when it could have been just bad scaling of their ECM tune or someone messing with defuel. and it can very well go vise versa, so my post above is for others to not just think "the 01 tcm tune will fix all" as that isnt always the case.

I've gone months without flogging mine, then stomp it out of nowhere. With the 01 OS it clicks right off with no issues what so ever. The 02 OS shifted like crap for me last time, and every time I have used it I have had issues with the 3-2 downshift. Also I will get random issues out of nowhere with it. I do like the grade braking the 02 had, and how the ECM responded to it(the 02 seemed to not take as long to downshift when I stomped it), but there were far to many negatives to leave it in. I also ran the 03-04 OS, and had no real problems with it other than it would adapt to friggen much. It was always relearning and changing how it shifted.

ive driven 100% stock trucks that have acted just like mine after the same driving style i drive. they still give the same little hiccups. im talking about driving this truck like i have a egg shell under my foot on the throttle peddle. thats how easy i push the throttle. rpms never see or go over 2k and its a long stretch to get up to 50mph. I drove my brothers LBZ that way for a couple weeks cause i wanted to make his tank last as long as possible before filling it up. filled it up and stomped it, all the shifts hung for just a split second. floored it again from a stop and clicked them right off. Did the same with my dads 10 LMM and it acted the same (actually a little worse).

im sure ill get some guys saying "well that never happens to me" but your not looking at it like i am nor driving the truck as whimpy as me. if i actually drive my truck without *****footing it around as i posted above, it will click them off without issue. since the last time Steve touched my tune about a year ago, ive not had one issue related to shift quality accept when my t-case tone wheel ate my speed sensor.

Another good option is to learn T/H for the hot tunes and regular for ther normal tunes and when you want to let it rip click T/H. it does work just gotta remember not to use the T/H for easy driving.

Just so we are on the same page Mine has never no matter which tune I run had an issue with WOT shifts, it's the part throttle easing around town or slowy accelerating up to hiway speed shifts that I hate and maybe thats because I drive like you lol. I flog the shit out of mine atleast once or twice everytime I take it into town I get a couple good flogs heading back to the house. Now the 01 OS never gives me issues with either and I don't use the T/H method either.
