Liked this post for two reasons:

1) It made me laugh. Are you in Idaho? I called once and spoke with a guy named "Dave". Was very knowledgeable and answered all my questions quickly and confidently. Once I got off the phone I realized I forgot to ask about a polished cover and cost of that option. I called back. A different guy answered. He said his name was "David" and that he just got off the phone with someone ELSE interested in having a BD rebuilt. He asked me if I lived in Idaho to which I replied "no". After that I asked him my questions and he was barely helpful and even acted confused. He must be the guy in training lol.
2) I never even thought of porting the t3. F'in great idea. Wonder what this would run.

Ha ha ha! Yeah I'm from Idaho, and I must of had "david"... The bd ped seemed like it had plenty of area's that could be worked over. I have an injector to replace, gotta rebuild this charger, and my tranny needs a refresh.... now I just need the time and money!

Yellowchevy, I'm interested in what gains you may be able to find with the port and polish, make sure to write it up with pics if you do one for yourself or DBUSH. :thumb:

Remembering when I did my BD pedestal install the up pipe ports were almost 1 3/4in diameter where as the up pipe gaskets are around 2in diameter, with that being said there's some good flow to be had there. There's also the rough casting the exhaust has to go through so I can work that out too.

I will for sure let you know how it goes.
If you look at the port/polish IHI thread I started you'll see the difference I did on the IHI turbo where the up pipes bolt to, it's about the same for the BD pedestal.

DBUSHLB7 - Levi's a great guy, you won't be disappointed.

I'm def excited for you to mod my pedistal. I bought a turbo blanket from Levi for my s480. Best example of customer service I've had in my life! Dude just flat out cares.

Quick update: pulled the turbo today and fixed slow leaking lower valve cover on driver side. Noticed passenger side was starting to leak as well! Removed other turbo and fuel crap and called it a day. Sending my turbo to HTT on Monday and my pedistal to Yellowchevy for port/polish. Regroup next sat to fix passenger side gasket issues and put what I can back together. On the bright side, I don't mind an opportunity to wipe down dirty parts!

So much easier to get to them up-pipes when there ain't no down pipe! The wheels are pretty tight. Shame about the dumb seals

At least you have a nice shop to work in. :thumb:

Although its not mine, you are right it is an awesome shop! Parts washers, lifts (big ones) endless tools, heated, bridge cranes, the works! It's the local Terex/Hundai dealer. They also rent their own fleet of heavy equipment. One of my best friends is the lead mechanic/2nd in charge there.

Do you guys think I should have my tune changed now that I'm jumping to the 66?

I would wait til the new charger is installed and then talk to Rob about it. He would probably want you to log certain PIDS at different throttle positions to see what changes may have to be made.

I like the top side creeper :thumb:; that was the best thing I ever made :D.
It's definitely a luxury to have a nice place to work in with all the tools at your finger tips.

That turbo looks good but the pedestal and exhaust side could use a good coat of paint :D.

What about port matching to the turbo base?I thought they were kind of off and needed to be straightened out?

They are but if I only have the pedestal that's what I'll gasket match; porting/polishing that pedestal will make a big difference in itself.
Doing the exhaust housing of the turbo will help but will take longer being you're got to dismantle the turbo, which I've become good at, haha :thumb:

I called ATP and asked them about changes. More or less they expressed the fuel is turned up already as much as he felt safe for the stock bottom end. I think the maf needs work though.

Topside creeper FTW! We had the turbo out in 45 min! That topside has now helped me through an injector job and now turbo swap/valve cover gasket replacements. Would have taken so much longer without. I need your address so I can ship that pedistal tomorrow!

Yikes!

So guys I hate to keep changing my mind like a woman but I had a tought tell me what you think:

Seeing as the turbo (seals aside) is in good shape, I've been considering just keeping it as is and having the seals replaced. Doesn't seem as if I can command the fuel to benefit from the 66. I'm on the edge of spending the difference on an LBZ pump. My original stocker is pitiful. My engine is so torn apart right now and it would be so easy to swap right now. Thoughts? Please help I got make a decision tonight and quit vacillating on this.

these are bushing turbo's and non water cooled.

From what I understand, these two factors shortens turbo life considerably.

They do leak some oil and have shaft play brand new. The oil is your "bearing" in there now.

I ran one for awhile, its sitting in a box somewhere around here.

I LOVE mine, it doesn't look as good as a purchased one but it only cost me $30 (canadian :D) to build and I did it in 2 - 3 weekends. I've used mine for 3 turbo swaps now, I wished I had one when I did my injectors back in 2010 .

I'll send you a PM with my address.

As for the turbo it depends on if you're ok taking the turbo out down the road if you decide to up grade. If the bearings are ok and it's just the seals they are really easy to replace. There should be one right behind the compressor back cover and another on the back of the turbine wheel.
Both the IHI and Garrett I've done were steel seals.
If you look at my IHI rebuild thread it should give you a good idea of what it looks like; it may not be exact but I'm sure it's similar.

If you need the LBZ CP3 more I'd probably get that instead and install new seals myself. Just make sure you take lots of pictures and make the compressor wheel, nuts, and shaft position.

I really admire the fact that you are brave and build these things on your own. If I had more time, I just might sack up and try it. The reality of it is I am swamped at work and more jobs just keep coming in. The company truck I'm using currently can't pull my cargo trailer. I need my truck back so I gotta send this thing out for repair. I truly do need a new CP3. You would not believe how torn up the truck is right now too, this making it awfully appealing to swap pumps now. I will have to give this more thought. I am going to race in AZ and badly want in the 11s. With the fuel I'm lacking and MUCH lower elevation I think I can get er there. Lacking fuel as I am, I wonder if the 66 would help my current state anyway.

Thanks :thumb:
I really wanted to see what a turbo looked like on the inside so I bought one for cheap and went at it with the mentality that if I screw it up I'm not out much.
I know the feeling about work, that's why it to me SO LONG for the first one I did; I'm at work right now :D.

If you keep this up you're going to be as indecisive as I am, which is bad; just Scott :thumb:.
