I will def keep this in mind as I truly have not ruled out getting a diff turbo all together. I LOVED this turbo as a single. To be honest, I don't tow anything of substantial weight. I've pulled skid steers around a bit and a small excavator once but normally just tandom axle flatbeds loaded with hardwood flooring and plywood, my 6x12 cargo trailer (floor install equipment and refinishing equipment with dust evacuators), and about 6k worth of boat. I imagine bigger turbos can still handle those jobs.
You can tow 6k with a large turbo. I tow 10k with mine but it takes a watchfull eye and downshifting allot on grades. 6k is no problem.

What about that S371 Trent was talking about last year? He was very happy with its overall driving characteristics.

01_Dmax....good deal.

A good buddy of mine has the s371 and loves it. Another problem for me though lies in the need for fabrication of a different hot pipe should I switch turbos. My BD is waste gated and sits so extremely close to the firewall. My current hot pipe is truly one of and built for that exact turbo not to mention clears stock y bridge and GMC hood tolerances. I'm not a welder and have no fabrication skills. Unfortuneately making a different hot pipe is prob out of the question for me. I'm going to call BD and HTT both in the morning and sort out my rebuild options and report back.

If you only haul that much then I wouldn't be afraid to step up to a large turbo, but I understand the money aspect in that you already have the turbo and I'm thinking it would be cheaper to rebuild than replace.

What ever you decide I'm thinking a little porting/polishing will help the turbo out :rolleyes:.

It's killing me not being able to know if my hot pipe would work with your 66 Dustin. I'd do it in a heartbeat. Would I need your pedistal? The turbos are so similar and even have the same waste gate setup.

So I spoke with HTT and they will rebuild/convert this turbo to a 66mm for 750 and throw on a new compressor housing or 400 for a straight rebuild as is.

I think I will go with the 66 conversion. Boy my next race is sure to be my last lol.

Just spoke with BD. They insist something took the seals out. They say seals don't just go.... They said that if parts failures occur it happens soon after initial operation on a vehicle. Lol. Oh and only a one year warranty. It was worth a shot.

Got me thinking though. Dustin's HTT takes a dump a couple months ago then bends a rod. Wonder if my rods are already bent? Metal shavings in the oil could take a seal out yes? Yet my s480 gets that same oil and its fine? Confused here.

I pretty sure the turbo wasn't the only deciding factor on my bent rods Damian ;)

Either way I think a good refresh/rebuild and an oil change is whats in store. It wouldn't hurt to make sure your wastegate is operating correctly. If its sticking close that could wear it out for sure.

Well ya might as well blow it up in desert in march you and the wife have a place to stay :thumb:

That's the plan. Trying to talk Zach into towing my truck and one other with the Kenworth:thumb:

You're right, I'm probably over thinking this. You better have that puppy ready for Tuff Truck Challenge in ABQ this year! Some fast trucks supposed to be there this year!

I called too. Lol. They must think those bd's are junk. The guy I talked to didn't seem to know a lot about turbos...must of just been a receptionist. Your rods hate you btw. We had both better talk to yellowchevy about porting and polishing that pos bd pedestal and then rick for some towflows. Drive pressure is hard on rods, and t3 turbos make drive pressure.:D

Liked this post for two reasons:

1) It made me laugh. Are you in Idaho? I called once and spoke with a guy named "Dave". Was very knowledgeable and answered all my questions quickly and confidently. Once I got off the phone I realized I forgot to ask about a polished cover and cost of that option. I called back. A different guy answered. He said his name was "David" and that he just got off the phone with someone ELSE interested in having a BD rebuilt. He asked me if I lived in Idaho to which I replied "no". After that I asked him my questions and he was barely helpful and even acted confused. He must be the guy in training lol.
2) I never even thought of porting the t3. F'in great idea. Wonder what this would run.

If the casting is as ruff as the IHI or 366 I have plus the restriction of the pedestal where the up pipes bolt to it will help out alot.
That was the first thing I noticed with my BD pedestal when I installed my turbo, how small the up pipe ports were; it screams porting/polishing :D. I was going to port/polish it before install but I didn't have time due to other things I was working on.

This summer I'll be removing my 366 for a complete port/polish job; intake to pedestal to see what gains it get followed by ported/polished exhaust manifolds, including LML manifold.

If you want to email me pictures Damian feel free too, [email protected], or go over what I can do, again just let me know.

PM coming! Oh and do you guys think the up-pipes are worth heat wrapping while they're out? On second thought, maybe clearance will be an issue.
