Make sure you have 2 dowl pins in the engine block for alignment. I have seen quite a few from the factory with only one.

What is the best way to get the C1/C2 pack open. I bought a tool, but it is not long enough. Any help would be awesome.

Cougar- why did you cut the PVC? What is the difference between the two PVC that is shown in your picture? How well did the PVC hold up? What is the diameter of the threaded rod? Can this rod be purchased at home depot?

Also does the stage 4 come with all the gaskets that I need to replace or can I reuse all of the gaskets?

Stage 4 comes with the gaskets. 4inch pipe and a drill press/ press that you can lock, will help you get that snap ring out.

I'm pretty sure you don't have to do that on your LMM unless you just want to inspect things. The front rotating assembly changed with the 6 speeds and the TG mods that were done on the 5 speeds aren't necessary for the 6s.

I would love not to open it up, but it sounds like my C1 and C2 pack is messed up. Should the hole down the shaft on C1/C2 pack be blocked? I can not slide the threaded rod down the shaft due to a metal obstacle. In fact, I can't see daylight from one end to the other end.

You need to pull the snap rings off the drums to get to the clutches. The tool that is mentioned is used to remove the apply/balance pistons once the clutches are removed. Do you have an ATSG manual or anything similar?

just get a buddy to help you push down on the drums and take the snap rings out. I didnt need any special tools.

Didn't you find a bad seal in your C1's.

I did the first time, but I didn't the second two times. That's why I said unless he wanted to inspect things, he didn't need to pull it apart, but I didn't make any recommendations either way. It sounded to me like he's trying to get to the clutches, and what I was getting at is there are no special compressing tools necessary to get to the C1 and C2 clutches. Seems to me he doesn't know how to get the snap rings out (or doesn't know which snap rings to remove) and no one was addressing the problem.

I am sorry guys. I was being dumb this morning. Wish I had a hang over to blame it on.

Josh - Yes I due have the ATSG manual. I started going through it and found what I needed to know.

It looks like my C1's are pretty burned and warped.

That looks familiar...

Good to see you got it figured out. As Mike hinted at, I would recommend you pull the drum the rest of the way apart and make sure you don't have something else going on in there.

Yeah, I am in the process of taking the drum apart. There is one snap ring that is holding me back. My two snap ring pliers that I purchased at two different times are not big enough. I will probably have the trans repair stop here in Denver due it for me when I pick up new TC bolts.
