Best tranny to couple with a diesel?

What are good options for a non electronic application to hold around 500-600hp(for a stock engine and street/drag use). Anything can be built to hold the torque, but I am looking at doing this project on a smallish cash roll. I just don't want a tranny the size the Allison

In this......1971 Chevy Cheyenne C10. I have been trying to sell it so I can do more thing to my truck, but have been have a hard time getting rid of it.

i had one just like that but it had the "somewhat rare" shortbed and i loved it and ended up selling it for 1k, kick myself in the ass every damn day for doin that.

Not terrible bad. I agree that they are the best truck every made. Right know it looks like shit because some of the wood in the bed and a cab mount is missing, but the body's fair.... I am thinking of swapping in a IFS front end that I have laying around.
So what would be a good option for a tranny, I have been half thinking of a T400, put is there any better options?

a built duraflight trans or a built 4r100 would be the only trans i could see standing a chance.

Th400 wouldn't handle the weight of a truck like that but I've seen powerglides do some pretty crazy things. Then again the weight of the truck is always a factor regardless.

What does the truck weigh? They are heavy, but I don't see it weighing over 5500 with engine/trans.

Where is JoshH?? he's pushing some good hp with that 4L85E in the dumpster. I would think they would be comparable so he would have some good insight for you.:thumb:

Go with a TH400. I know of several high hp cummins conversions that are running the 400

If your going to drive it on the highway you would need a Gear Vendors. I have 2.91 gears 29" tall tires and at 60 in 1-1 I'm at 2100rpm in OD I'm at 1500rpm.
I love the way my 4R100 shifts and drives and its a lot smaller and lighter then the Allison and Duraflight.

I've ran a 400 in my combo for some time. If built with the right parts it will work well and pretty reasonably priced. You'd have to run a manual valve body and the gv is not necessary but would be a plus. I know for 12 bolt passenger cars Gm made a 2.56 gear, which is what I ran with the 400 non gv for some time. Worked well for everyday driving. If you Trans brake it you wil have issues with the rear gear. I switched to a 3.08 gear and 3 series carrier when I went with the gv. Better mileage than the 2.56 but same end result with the Trans brake. As long as you just foot brake it it will last. Pm me if you want the details on how to build the tranny or I can build it for you with the right parts.

hmmm don't know about 4 wh drive stuff, but yes the 400 and converter will bolt right up. no adapter needed, its the same gm bolt pattern since the beginning of time.
