For real performance, don't they have a little better luck with 4l85 over the 6l90 or are they starting to get those to hold stout power too?

... as the guy I mentioned previously (in regards to Brett's trouble with the 4R100) walks in. :hello:

* At least I think I read a thread about you and the dragster going from 7.3 PS-4R100 to dmax-4R100. :thumb: And didn't I read about snow white being back out playing again this year over on CompD? Never heard much more after that initial re-entry. How's she[?] doing? On here, you left off the dragster thread with a picture of a pile of parts for the engine build then nada. Believe you had mentioned it was gonna be a 7L beast of an engine via Fleece? Forward progress??

I have had some problems with the 4L85E in the dumpster, but since I got a new valve body/trans brake setup and went back into the trans myself and did my own clutch stacks, I've had pretty good luck. I just went back through it a couple of weeks ago after running it a couple of months earlier this season (probably a couple of dozen passes on it and some very limited street driving/testing). Everything looked perfect except the intermediate clutch pack. I changed that up a little and put it back together. I've not had any hard part failures so far (other than an intermediate sprag failure at the beginning of the year last year). I'd say my power level is right about where you're talking about if I'm spraying nitrous.

When I run my truck on my 900hp tune the trans is awesome. I have gone my quickest and fastest on that tune, its when I run on my 1100+ tune that the trans and converter don't like it. The 4r100 with PCS tuned by Danville is the best performance / street trans I have had or ridden in. Brian is working on some new stuff for my trans but I don't think it will be ready in time for world finals. I was really hoping to make it this year.

That dragter was bring converted to a DMA, yes. However, shortly after parts had been gathered for the engine build Wide Open Performance closed and Zane went to work for H&S. Not sure what has happened with it since then, nothing as far as I know.

I do strongly believe the 4R100 is the little known secret of transmissions in our industry. With the work BTS does to them and the right PCS tuning they just flat work.

I like simple

And for simple its a powerglide. I have had very little trouble with mine. One band and a few sets of clutchs in high gear. One set didn't need replaced but I wasn't taking any chances going to the TX last year. We also run a glide in the Chevy II I built with a duramax. No problems with it. A glide or 400 can be built to handle any power that can be made with a duramax at this time. The converter is the key. Now running anything in a light weight car with anything other than a glide is going to be slower! Any truck tranny just has the wrong gearing to work. There is no way a deep gear on the hit is going to help. A lenco or something with a 1.5-1.9 gearing in low will work. Now to the OP I would run a 400 from what your saying and being on a budget. If you are driving the freeway a lot then the next cheapest with lockup would be a 4l-85. It sounds like the ford tranny works well up to a point in power but more money. I'm the odd guy out as I just want to get down the track and win! I'll leave the records/big numbers for the guys with a ego. I have not had to abort ONE SINGLE PASS in my dragster from it spinning or not going down the track. Sometimes you just have to be in it to win it. LOL

Hmm no one thinks a 47RH would be a good choice from a 94-95 cummins? I had a nice built one with also reds and a suncoast converter and it never skipped a beat behind my cummins. They shift hydraulically on their own 1-2-3 then I just had a switch i flipped for OD and lockup. And the Rh's dont need billet outputs at that hp level because they have a larger output as compared to an RE from newer years. A buddy of mine had a manual valve body in his and it was awesome as well.
