What is the best year 4R100 to get?

It really shouldn't matter 99-03, as once someone like BTS or John Woods rebuilds it they'd be replacing all the weak points anyway. I do think you'd want to get one out of a V10 gas truck and not a 7.3L Powerstroke (bell housing bolt pattern difference)

I'm running a 47rh behind the LBZ in my Camaro. Reverse manual valve body with a trans brake, billet input, triple disc, and other misc. goodies. It works awesome, I couldn't be happier. Full line pressure all the time means very firm shifts but it's avoided by short shifting. But when it's time to get with the program, hold the f*ck on. I can't say anything about other trannys because I don't have experience with them.

Yours doesn't require a computer right, because it is the RH and not the RE?

The RH does not require any any electronics to shift first through third gear. The gov assembley is in the extension housing and and shift by line pressure. To get it into OD or converter locked, there is 1 solenoid on the valve body. It has a 3 wire plug on it. You supply one wire with a 12v source. Then mount 2 switches inside the vehicle, run one of the other wires to the switch, then to ground. And same with the last (third) wire. One will control converter lockup one with control 4th gear. If you have a manual valve body, you will just zip tie the pressure lever back so its full line pressure at all times like dslhrdr's is. If you choose to do this, make sure you get a converter maybe 100rpm looser because the higher line pressure off idle will make it want to push through the brakes a litter sooner vs if the pressure cable was hooked up and functional.

In my old dodge, i converted it from a 5 speed to a 47RH so thats how I know all this. If you run a 48RE bottom half of the valve body, you will achieve lockup in 2nd without modifications. If you run a factory 47RH valve body, holes need to be plugged and some drilled in the valve ports to allow it. A small hint-you WILL want it to lock in 2nd, and if you setup the valve body for it...When your staging in 1st gear, go ahead and lock the converter switch so as soon as it shift into 2nd it will shift then immediatly lock as fast as possible. Hope this helps if you want anymore info just ask :thumb:

Well I have to chose between a 4R100 and a Turbo 400. I have a 4wd 400 that would need covered to 2wd, but I am not sure what it would take to hook up the duramax or I have a friend were I could get a 4R100 for cheap or free, but will cost 2000 to get it to bolt up and work with a duramax. For a mostly stock engine, is the cost effective way to go with the 400 and maybe a gear vendor?

I would go with the 4R100, but if you do decide to go with the 400 I have a brand new gear vendors I will sell. The gear vendors is the race/promod version with all the electronics sitting in my office ready to ship out.

4L80 is a 400 with an overdrive stuck in front of it. It will bolt right up to a Duramax without any adapters.

What does it take to hook up wiring harness to run it with the ECM? Is the Van wiring harness different from the truck or can you add on the 4L80E Harness.

The vans are setup to run a T42 TCM to control the transmission. I'm not sure how difficult it would be to wire up, but I would guess it's easier than wiring and programming a PCS controller for the Dodge or Ford transmission.

I have a harness that was "Originally" from a van with a 4L80E, but it didn't come with a TCM and i am not sure how to tell if it is there right harness.

Well I had a wild and maybe a dumb idea of maybe using a T56. Anyone know how that would hold up? Stock engine, injectors. Would the torque blow it to bits and would a gas clutch work on a dmax flywheel? The reason I am concerning this is that I want to autocross my C10 when I am done with it and not sure how our transmissions will take up and down shifting like that.

It'll be hard to hold the torque, granted there's a big aftermarket world for them the technology might be there
