Question Id like to pose to everyone....

If you were to stick with this same type design (bottom mounted sump), what would you do to improve/modify the design?

Here is the current Hellmann unit:

Matt, IMOP they are fine right as they come , I have ran one and had no problem holding 26k rail pressure on a 2900 pulse width and 45% over injectors , its not the rocket science that some guys are making out to be ................................................its just a fuel pick up and works great . only thing that would be nice is a fine mesh screen built in a few inches off of the bottom to stop any big particles , even though my tank was spotless inside even after 8 years and 70k miles .

Matt, as I said before-a small standpipe that goes just a little higher than the bottom of the tank and a 1/8NPT threaded hole in the bottom for a petcock to drain water. Even if it was just an option.

Not all of us get our fuel from the fuel station if you know what I mean.;)

I would like to see a more low profile version with kind of a dome shape being flat on the "back" side for the fittings. I would love to get a sump over messing with the stock pickup, but I don't want to risk catching it on something. I know it has to be big enough to get the fittings on, but I would think you could cut it down to 11/2"-13/4". If this unit is feeding guys with duel CP3s I sure a bit smaller one would feed us stockish guys just fine. And from the look of our fuel tank with a 1/4 of a tank of fuel I don't see sloshing let any sort of a sump not mounted in the front of the tank go dry. I would think you could get way with thinner material too after all its mounted to a plastic tank. If that could cut cost any.

I def see what your saying dozerboy , but anything that would rip this off of your tank , may be hitting the fuel tank anyway IMOP , we are talking about 2.5 " it hangs down , while i do agree that it is something that should be considered when buying , I dont see it being a real issue for 98 % of people. My guess is the same scenario would take out the tank in either scenario , JMOP i could be way off base on how most use there trucks .
