Why would it be a headgasket if he just studded the head and it wasn't leaking before. I bet my bottom dollar it's a cup or two. No biggie Trent will get it done

I would suspect cup as well. Pulling the glow plug will confirm this of course. If those cup seats aren't uber clean and dry before loctite is applied, they will not seal. But they are better to do than an HG!!

so far i have seen no signs of burning coolant, and have not seen any coolant making its way into the motor oil . i have pulled the glow plugs as well but need to re-check before i tear it down . no matter what i find i will post up about it .

When doing a job like this, just check for the coolant tank level to drop? Check engine oil make sure its not mixed? Thats about the only things to really look for is coolant problems right?

You said it is pressurizing the coolant system which both will do.

I think I know about pressurized cooling systems:(

Damnit you jinxed me , so far there had been no symptons of head gasket failure but for what ever reason today after testing some tuning for staging , basically just power braking it building boost ect , i have water/air leaking out of one of the outer head studs just bairly bubling , could have been gasket all the time or it could be cup first then head gasket from running it that way . i will be tearing into it this weekend and will have some answers :( , either way it will be fixed soon or be pulled to get some better rods and back together before Boise . cant decide which route i want to go yet if it gets rods it will be a very budget bare min build . doubt it will come to that but I am not willing to chase problems from one side of the motor to the next and half to do the job several times and wasting a bunch of time effort and frustration trying to avoid labor and costing me 4 times as much .

To be honest with ya Trent, I would do the gasket, and throw it together. Run the shiznit out of it, and then build it over the winter properly. To do rods, you pretty much need to pull it anyhow.

if rods get done the motor will be pulled and do rods , new rod bearings , gaskets , and what ever we see in there needing attention . I am going to pull the one head and depending on what i see will determine my course , I would rather wait till winter myself .

I have that hope too Steve , but i am not willing to shoot myself in the foot for :quote: braging writes . I would love to do the tear down after a ten secound pass and see what the motor really looks like after that kind of power . The one bad thing about pulling this head is i will have to check piston protrusion :baby: My money says i already have shoter rods................... they just arent bad enough to have symptons yet

Shoot if their shorter then fill the cylinder with more air and fuel since theirs room if thats the case:D All kidding aside I hear ya on shooting yourself if the foot. I never have put studs in one of these yet but I was wondering on these engines if you put anything on the threads to keep the coolant from following the threads up and out like on gas engines. I put together an engine earlier this year and had a faulty torque wrench cause the heads to lift under boost. Used a different torque wrench and used arp molly lube instead of the off the shelf lube and never had another issue with the engine. I'm just rambling and shoot out things to hopefully hit on instead of a bad gasket or other issues. Like I said I really wanted to see how deep your truck would go so get it fixed but fixed right. Good luck.

Piston protrusion is pretty easy to do Trent. And it will also tell you what gaskets you should be putting back on as well. Just some food for thought.....:D
