LBZ never had GMLAN communications bus. But kinda yes, what needs to be done is modify a LMM file to be the same as a LBZ manual file, somehow its possible just beyond my knowledge. Kory did say today that he would be able to "soon"
Actually, they do, but it's just between the dlc, ECM, TCM and gpcm. But as Ken has mentioned related to GM and their message changes, the LBZ ECM may be missing some messages your cars modules are looking for. The 04-05 LLY's had a similar J1939 bus that was only between modules and didn't extend to the dlc.

I wonder if the LBZ bus would send or receive any of the same messages LMM does.

Ken would probably know off the bat, I don't recall if they have the same messages or not. I could put things back together on the bench and do some bus logging and compare to see.
Is it hard to log messages? What hardware is needed?

I was talking to Ken about some CAN stuff last week, and he told me to get one of these to record the CAN messages.

Back from my week of digging for $ in the sand. Got a tan, but no treasure..

The LBZ HS GMLAN shares "most" of the same raw CANbus messages as the LMM. Yet is missing some signals ya probably want, like OilPressure. Some others are Short a byte, which plays havoc with other nodes looking for 8 byte message, and getting a 7.. Weird stuff, like they just didn't get around to finishing the code before production time. So it makes it tricky when you try to run the LBZ ECM against 08 or newer chassis.

The LMM on the other hand, shares about everything CANbus message related with an E38/E67, making far easier swapping into 05-14 gasser chassis. LBZ was the first shot at moving away from J1939 to GMLAN protocol, on the new Bosch hardware and Allison TCM. Following year, they had it sorted.

I also dug up that :LMM bin file I've use as the marine swap base. It doesn't have that Standard Transmission switch, or options to change the CANbus VSS input to TOS line as I previously thought. I was digging around with Kory on it, and we obviously spotted a squirrel somewhere...

Thanks for the great info as always Ken. Sounds like by the time I’ll need this file Kory might be able to do it for me (car is parked now for the winter ) For whatever it’s worth I’ve reached out to some tuners about it and most of them have no idea where to start and the odd couple that said “ya no problem” don’t actually understand what needs done lol. Regardless I’ve got lots of time to get the rest done and can worry about the ecm stuff later.

There is a member to our north who was working on a crank trigger mod file to run an L5P off an LBZ/LMM ECM. Also a map of the LBZ bin floating around out there The 2 OS share very similar structures.

So if you really want to learn bin file hacking, I'd approach this same way we were doing the crank/cam tooth mod. Comparing the known LBZ segments against the similar LMM lines, and see if can CAX something out of it..

I certainly got dirty, and learned hurricane debris clean up is much like crab fishing back in the 80's. Huge bounty up for grabs to the crews that have the best tools, know the waters, and can pick up and haul the most yards of crap up the road 2 miles in single weeks time.

Went south to help out a couple buddies who wanted to try trucking in the disaster recover scene for the winter. Fond em a good spot to cut their teeth on hauling hurricane debris. Downtown Tampa.. I loaded trucks a few days, then remembered, that I have plenty of work in my own dust free climate controlled office...

Got some insite from another knowledgeable I’ve got to know through face book, his suggestion is to break down the code using ghidra to pin point what changes need to be made. I’ve played with ghidra a little bit but never got far. Any tips would be apreciated! Or any good courses on the basics?
