Congrats on the recognition, Dustin!!! It is very much deserved! :thumb:

First time Ive ever seen a link or reference to a diesel forum in an article. Usually the magazines dont mention that.

x2 . . . Congrats Dustin!

Awesome car, awesome build, awesome article. I like that Diesel Army added some video of the car. Pictures are one thing but seeing it in action is even better. :thumb:

I was finally able to take my Dad for a ride in the Camaro for the first time in 7 years. Thanks to Tony for filming the video.

Still have only a 40hp tune loaded on the motor, and it burns the tires going into third gear. I still wish someone would have filmed the dough nut we did when we drove back to the shop...

This is a similar video to the one I posted before, but thought you would like to see it.

Figured it was time to post a small update. The holidays made my progress slow a bit, and not a lot of pictures to show, but here's something.

I modified the intake by cutting 1/4" out of it to lower it over the motor more, and also shortened the oil filler neck to compensate. I can still get the cap off with the intake installed, even though it might not look like it. I also smoothed, primed and painted the intake.

I bought Kennedy's twin lift pumps to replace the loud as hell pump I had on the car. Thank you Tom for mentioning the Kennedy pumps, they are exactly what I needed.

Since I had already built the mounting tray for the previous pump, I decided to use the bracket that came with the old pump to mount the Kennedy pumps.

It required slight modification.

I was rushing to finish so this is the "rough install" pic.

Last Wednesday I drove the Camaro to Performance Drivetrain so Eric could help me diagnose the whining/howling sound coming from the rear axle. At this point we think it's the pinion bearing, but don't know for sure, so yesterday I pulled the rear axle apart and got the 3rd out, and got proof that the the axles are indeed 40 splines :woott:

Tomorrow I'm dropping the 3rd off to be gone through. I have new door glass and a few other parts showing up this week get the car more complete. I still need to take the hood off and get the inner structure finished and painted. I will have more videos coming in the next couple weeks so stay tuned.

How have I missed this for sooooo long, it's been a great read while off and on for work the past 5 hours. That thing is like sex on wheels. Awesome work man! I'm in for the rest of the story! Good luck for the future

Evidently the 3rd was set up with a Pro Gear, which is basically a drag race only ring and pinion made out of a softer metal to help absorb the shock of hard launches on the strip. It should not be driven on the street... According to the manufacturer, the Pro Gear was most likely the howling/whining sound coming from the axle. I hope it was...

Here's the old ring and pinion, yoke and pinion support.

And the rebuilt 3rd.

I finished getting it all back together about an hour ago. I'd go out and break the gears in but it's been raining and won't be letting up for awhile.

Went out and broke in the new ring and pinion this morning. The old Pro Gear was indeed the cause of the howling/whining sound, and is now gone. Now I'm pretty sure the heim's on the 4 link are a little worn out and making noise. Those are expensive and will have to be on the to do list...

Total Performance Diesel's dyno day is coming up fast. Im going to try to get the hood finished so the car looks decent. I think it's a long shot I'll be able to get 500 miles on the new ring and pinion so I can put it on the rollers. Worst case scenario, I'll be there hanging out all day.
