Steering center link - straight or dropped?

Thanks for every ones input on what has / has not worked for you. I think that I am getting somewhat confused by the different failure modes of this design. I have read / seen the deflection issue of the center link ... this can be fixed by running either the straight or larger dropped center...

    A/C line leaking at fitting

update - had a can of R134 in the garage and added it so that the compressor kept running. Unfortunately, the setup did not have a pressure gage to see just how low the charge was, or how high I was able to bring it up to. I can share that when I started, the A/C compressor would cycle on /...

How to tell if it is the power steering pump or the steering box?

I've heard of using ATF, but also heard that ATF isn't "compatible" with the seals in the system. In the past I have used ATF in a pinch, but have tried to stay with the correct fluid if possible. As for using synthetic PS fluid, it was only as a band-aid to try and help the system. I did the...

How to tell if it is the power steering pump or the steering box?

Is this schedule for regular power steering fluid? What about synthetic power steering fluid?

How to tell if it is the power steering pump or the steering box?

Out of curiosity, when are you supposed to change the power steering fluid? I looked in the owners manual, but didn't see it listed.

How to tell if it is the power steering pump or the steering box?

Doing some more troubleshooting on this truck. Trying to measure the fluid temperature using an infrared heat gun. Anyone know how hot is too hot???

How to tell if it is the power steering pump or the steering box?

I did flush out the factory fluid at ~30k miles. I put synthetic power steering fluid back in. The truck now has ~110k on it. I am leaning heavily toward adding a power steering cooler no matter which set of parts I end up swapping.

    A/C line leaking at fitting

Yes, where you connect to the high pressure port. I am attaching a picture of it with the cap off. It looks like you can buy just that fitting, but I have never had good luck taking ac lines apart. They always seem to be stuck. Anyone ever just replaced one of the quick disconnects? Or...

How to tell if it is the power steering pump or the steering box?

I have noticed over the last few years that my steering isn't quite what it should be (2004 K2500). After reading a lot of posts about how bad the steering is on these trucks, and that it's bad just live with it .... I am hoping that maybe mine is just a bit worse and could benefit from some...

    A/C line leaking at fitting

Just in time for some extra summer heat, my 04 A/C is no longer blowing nice and cold. A quick look at the A/C line shows that the quick connect fitting toward the front of the truck has some dampness around the cap. I'm guessing that this might be my leak and need to recharge the system. Is...

Steering center link - straight or dropped?

1FastBrick - yes, I have been dutifully reading the steering box thread and trying to comprehend all the different variables of guys steering setups. It seems like there are many different options out there which is making it a little more confusing for myself. I am leaning toward the new...

Steering center link - straight or dropped?

This is just my tow pig. So, turning radius is important. I am starting to get signs of weak power steering, and figure that I might have to swap out steering boxes. It sounds like the PSC box is a good upgrade, but that leads to new pitman arm, which can lead to new center link etc... I...

Steering center link - straight or dropped?

Can anyone tell me which type of center link is better? straight or dropped? I've noticed that places like Kryptonite have a straight one while others like PPE have the bigger 7/8" design, but it still retains the dropped ends. From what I have read / observed, the inherent twisting of the...

Diesel fuel availability in KY, TN, NC and SC?

Thanks for the replies. Any one in SC having any issues? I am glad to hear that there aren't any shortages right now. Hopefully the supply keeps up, and the price actually starts to come back down.

Diesel fuel availability in KY, TN, NC and SC?

Leaving in a couple weeks to go on vacation and will be hauling the camper down to South Carolina. Heard rumors for diesel shortages, and this last week noticed a couple of stations up here in the mid West that were out of diesel. I am wondering what it looks like along my intended route for...

    Dragging brakes

Played with the hydro boost and master last night. Jacked up the front end and rolled around one of the tires. Yes, dragging. Unbolted the master from hydro boost, still dragging. Nothing obviously wrong with the hydro boost. Couldn't really actuate the master with it in chassis, but no...

    Dragging brakes

Ron, thanks for your continued help. Yes, bleeders are at the top, no leaks, and calipers slide easily. I know touching the rotors is a hack way of checking things, but it was how I checked my rears when my calipers were sticking. Granted, those were so bad that I could smell the brakes when...

    Dragging brakes

Fluid was replaced when I did brake lines a couple years ago. I also replaced about half the fluid when I swapped rear calipers last year. All the brake lines and hoses were done at the same time, so I don't think it is the hoses. I used new GM hoses when I replaced everything. I agree...

    Dragging brakes

I finally had a few hours today to dig into my brakes. Pulled all four corners off and lubricated everything with high temp synthetic brake caliper grease. On the fronts, still original GM, I used a c clamp and exercised the pistons 3 times to make sure they moved in and out without any issue...

    Dragging brakes

In the past I have used anti seize to grease the pins. Is that ok, or should I use something else?
