    IF I decide to de-lip, they will be coated. I can get the coating done for not a lot of money so it's cheap insurance in my eyes. It's sounds like catch 22 though, Pat has seen cracks starting at the piston lip while the model Fingers posted showed a de-lipped piston being weaker than factory...

    Just bought 2 more engines. Got one torn down, seems to be good enough to run in my swap. Plan on re-ringing, fresh bearings & gaskets. That's it. Question is, would you guys de-lip and coat the pistons while I have them out or just let it ride? I only ask after seeing all the piston...

    It might not like heat and sag once it gets hot. Could try a paint shop for a high temp adhesive.

    Did you pull the intake and check the turbo shaft for play? It doesn't sound like you were running an insane amount of boost but it could have just let go. I would start by checking there.

    I talked to Jacob from Wide Open Performance he said they went 9.9x. Didn't get to see it run, not sure what happened. 7.3 powered IIRC. Good day of racing though. Duramax definitely had a good showing today. :thumb:

    I've never had much luck finding an online rule book either but I did get a paper version awhile back, it was only around $5 bucks. It's nice being able to look through it when you don't necessarily have access to a computer. Something to think about.

    Why is it important for the machine shop to have done Duramax stuff before to check heads? I would think one would be more concerned with the quality of the machine work that comes out of the shop, not the exact brand of engine. Wrong?
