Is it worth it to change the fan clutch out for the Kodak or quicker locking up clutch? I have the fan out, and if the benefits are worth the money I am interested. I know people like Adam that tow a lot have swapped them, but I don't tow heavy for that long of period of time. Opinions???

Unless you see temp issues, I don't see why you would want to swap. Mine is dieing and I'm looking for more cooling so I'm going to give it a shot. I tow a lot for hours at a time in 110* heat. I need all I can get lol

My Temps are decent excepted for my transmission, but that's not horrible, but I am the type of I can make it run cooler with out a huge draw back, ie a drop in mpg or not in operating range. I don't know if the best choice would be to run a set of Pats thermostats or a clutch, or electric fans or just stay with the factory set up.

I just put a Hayden 2850 in mine while I had the radiator and ic out for cleaning. Also replaced my belt and hoses. 185,000 maintence lol.

Fwiw the Hayden was cheaper than a stock replacement (Amazon)

Thermostats only prolong heating up the same way a deep pan does on an Allison. The fan ought to work about the same but the idea there is you starting the cooling process quicker than the stock fan would.

Really, a bigger radiator be the best over all your options you listed

Who all makes a aftermarket radiator for the Duramaxs? Someday I hope to redue my cooling stack when I put in my air to water intercooler.

i know mishimoto makes ones but i dont know of any "bigger" factory replacements. maybe look into the updated LLY ones? no idea on that though

Not sure if it will fit but the lbz radiator is bigger than the lb7/lly one

Need to swap core supports, lower rad hose and water pump from the lbz. One water pump bolt will need too be tapped into the front cover. On second though I've only done lbz water pump on 01-05 blocks when using the lbz front cover aswell. Inter cooler as well

The Kodiak clutch fan has a different mounting height which may or may not affect how the air draws past the shroud, Kennedy has Borg-Warner clutch that has a different operating characteristics than the Hayden. I looked online for a Borg-Warner unit to no avail, give it a shot or get ahold of Kennedy.

Some guys have tire issues that just seem to follow no matter what they drive, some transmissions or other parts, me it's radiators must be where I live. Considering the age of my truck and my luck or unluck after this summer I will be replacing the radiator more than likely with a Mishimoto. Ron Davis was rumored to have one in the testing last year in conjuction with coolertowing for the LLY and when I spoke with them nothing for the LBZ/LMM so Mishimoto it may have to be...

OEM is ~7.0" diameter
hayden 2886 is ~7 3/8" diameter
hayden push the fan forward 13/16" over the stocker.

the Hayden paperwork says ~30* lower than coolant... from experience.. I have watch the fan come on every close to coolant temps between 175-200*.. the AC condenser displace enough heat to engage the fan clutch.
this is idle at ~725rpm AC on, I can wad up a blue paper shop towel and drop it in front of the cooling stack and the air flow will catch it as well.

shits and giggles I tried it on the tranny cooler as well..

the 2886 fan along with 4" exhaust and efi live was the first things that happen shortly after I got the truck.

Thats an LMM fan clutch? I know the LB7/LLY fan clutch is taller than the LBZ/LMM unit. I believe the KODIAK fan clutch is teh same dimensions as the LB7/LLY/6.5L fan clutch as far as height goes. I know the 6.5ers are swapping in the KODIAK fan clutches now to try and keep temps down.

I did exactly that swapped into the 99 C3500HD I had, a hayden clutch(2886) for a Kodiak ~3 years ago.

that what I pulled off my 07.5

After some ~140,000mile of towing aftermarket fan clutch is starting to go.. Ect runs ~10° hotter than normal.. For temps.. Its 81° out no wind at idle still get nice cold air.
Even on hot days.. Ect never broke 100°C be hard presses to see 97°C. seen 102°C. Higher ECT, means higher EOT, up ~20-25°F) and EGTs up ~100°f, tranns is pushing 100-110° above ambient vs 80-90° above in normal operations while towing... For $110.00 fan has had a hard life.. Been nice if it to start die when the engine killed a piston. Been much easier to swap the clutch then..
AC vent max at idle (700rpm)

Not sure I understood what you just said... You say the new style clutch is worse than the original style?
