Yup it sucks. At least you have good shops near you to get you going. I was an hr from the nearest town and 8 from the nearest performance shop when mine broke.
Are you going to do a build or just swap the broken stuff and get it back on the road?

Been there, Done that :( (Luckily I was only 15 miles from home though)

Talk about road side assistance! Catastrophic failures like that are the worst. But it looks like you will back on the road in no time!

No kidding. It's crazy how helpful all these people are here and willing to help out fellow members. I would have done the same thing though. If someone broke down around my area I would be more than willing to lend a hand where needed.

Jason, care to give us a run down on the plan for the motor? i know sitting down may still sting but that pain eases when you talk about all the pretty shiny things going in it :D

There has to be a GM dealer within a reasonable amount of time. When your covered by warranty on a 5k plus expense, grab a rental until your truck is done.

If I were to do it I'd only own a 6.7L. 6.0/6.4 trucks pay my mortgage but I have not done much with 6.7 P.S. I see this as a good thing. The shop I work for has not done a single 6.7 Powerstroke engine. Haven't even diagnosed one as needing an engine. We have done several 7.3, 6.0, 6.4 Ford, a few 5.9 Cummins and a 6.7 Cummins, every generation of Duramax, a couple due to broken cranks.

Coming from a guy (me)that just rebuilt an engine with a block that contained a broken crankshaft that had main studs...and failed.


Block is junk

~600.00 block
1000.00 or so for machine work.
1000.00 new LML keyed crankshaft
bearings and gaskets
Have ~4,000.00 in parts plus labor
