Like it or not, this is GOING to happen. Read what the article discusses, not just teh headline. They are not trying to stop us from working on our cars, what they ARE trying to do is make it illegal to modify the tuning or alter the electronics in the vehicle. This is the next step in stopping people from adding HP or removing factory safety features. They have found out they cannot block people from reading the ECM's to obtain tune files(look at the LML, people found a way around it), so now they are going to use copyright law to block peopel from altering there vehicles programming. You can bet the EPA is a driving factor here with this situation, and with them involved, you can bet it will get pushed through somehow. I don't agree with it, but it was only a matter of time before the computer card got thrown down, and manufacturers pursued that route to keep people from altering the programming. It will be viewed as no different than your home PC. Yes you own it, but they own the copyright to the software that makes it work, and thus you can't just take a program from "your PC" and give it to a friend to use on "there PC" without consequences.
