My Colorado is the AZ's fastest SS. get 26mpg, and can haul 5 cases of water. It's a truck.
If I'm not mistaken the truck on the video gets around 14 - 16 combo (Street/Hwy) MPG.
The lightning is a fun truck, but the 2wd is the limiting factor. I drove one a couple times and it's a blast if its warm and stick road outside but it gets a little hairy after that. But yes they can be pretty fast.
you know lightnings are good because brian earl spliner drives a red lightning, and he likes it.
except when he gets mad and smashes the lower bumper/valance by driving it into a curb.
Or maybe he just likes it because Harry gave it to him to drive, I dunno.

i would like to see a total cost comparison between a 9 sec. duramax and a 9 sec. srt-10..... one of the local guys had the fastest stock longblock viper. made somewhere in the 800's at the wheels if im not mistaken. also another local tossed a procharger on his stock srt-10 and is now making well over 700 at the wheels. pretty impressive, for a $4,000 bolt-on mod, imo.
i love the way the diesels haul, but no way would i consider building one for racing. the prices for parts are out of control on these things! dont see how you guys do it. :hail:

my stock LT1 shortblock is making over 600rwhp. ported stock heads, cam, headers, single plane, nitrous kit. quite a bit less than 4 grand for all that. lots of people making north of 700rwhp with a turbo'd LS motor. ford 4 valve motors are good for 1500hp with good rods and pistons. the guy with the 700rwhp srt-10 has headers and a bigger fuel pump/injectors. the engine is stock. no aftermarket cams, nothing.700hp at the rear wheels for only $4,000...sign me up!!!!!!
got a bone stock LBZ in my driveway with a broke crank. never had any gas engine do that much less a $15k diesel engine. Not sure about the Vipers, but on most NA gas engines, they have the same problem we do. Rods. And often crankshafts. If they didn't come from the factory with forged rods and crank, they tend to fail.
e85 has been working pretty good for alot of guys. its somewhere around a dollar/gal cheaper than diesel is. you are totally right on the tune. you can blow one up with a 100 shot of nitrous if you dont know what your doing. And often, you are married to race gas or octane booster the rest of your life. A minor tuning problem will destroy a supercharged gas engine almost immediately.
i would agree, if not for the duramax parts costs. cost is always the limiting factor on how fast you can go.... with that in mind, i think it would be cheaper to go 12's in a lightning than a 3/4 ton duramax. a 150 shot and some slicks will put one in the 12's. what about the duramax? in terms of fuel cost, run it on e85 and it wont matter that it gets 5mpg worse mileage than the diesel. But if you want a 12 second daily driver that can tow heavy, haul heavy, go off-road, seat 5, and get 20+ mpg, what are you going to buy? Diesel Pickups are the "Super Trucks" of 21st century. Not SRT's or Lightnings.

e85 makes more power than gasoline. i dont remember the exact explanation, but once you get your a/f in check, you will be burning 30% more e85 than you would be on gasoline. it acts similar to alcohol. uses more than gasoline, burns cooler, and it makes more power than gasoline even on a n/a engine. octane is over 100 as well, so its very good for a supercharged/turbo application.
