I am loving mine! So far I have no reason to believe the forged are actually stronger. We have seen other's break them in half. It's all in how you make your Hp. Right now I have 150% confidence in the Race-cast oval bowls and until we actually fail one I am going to continue down this path because the performance gain from them is awesome.

Not to nit pick but .... there is a lot of info out explaining why forged is and always will be stronger. You saying that you don't think it's needed is a personal preference and opinion.
That being said not all forged are the same, and iirc Mahle 4032 alloy does have a higher silicone value than say a Arias 2618 alloy atleast that is my understanding?

I'm glad your build has worked so far and hope it continues to hold up- it sounds great!

Just a question but doesn't Mahle also make both 4032 and 2618 pistons ? I know the 2618 is a stronger piston but you also have to give up the tighter clearances which results in noisy piston slap at cold starts. Not sure the two are available in the Duramax line of pistons though, anyone know?

Hmm,
I think I read that you can have the better material from Mahle if you request, but not sure?? Im not sure of the cost either??? What's a set of the regular Mahle forged and cast worth?

If i had decided to go cast i would have got fingers pistons. but i decided to go with the mahle forged and honestly just get better pricing on the mahle forged nothing against fingers what so ever. Rob has used the same set of mahle forged in maxd out for 4 season with no issues and my builder has a set in a street truck with close to 50k miles on them so i trust them.

still think fingers has an awesome product and if i ever run cast in anything again i will get his oval race cast. :thumb:

These are not even close to the clearances seen in alcohol/nitro meth engines... Different materials being used all together too, if you think there's piston slap occurring at .014" cold, i think you're insane

Your ok, maybe I should explain myself alittle more for you guys, sorry. What I meant by this was we have been using Mahle Forged, Race cast, LB7 cut&coated, stock lb7/lly pistons in builds from base all the way to 1400+hp fuel only motors and the major issues we have had is the need to re-ring the forged pistons after 2 seasons of pulling. I have builds with cut stock pistons still in action without any issues 4 seasons later making well over 900hp. The top ring on the forged pistons is a joke compared to the stock ring. I have seen others break stock, cut& coated stock, forged pistons and bend carillo rods and even a truck break a carillo rod but those are not my customers. If you beat the crap out of something the wrong way it will fail eventially. We recently rebuilt a motor for a customer that had a twinned stock motor LLy that made 530hp and had bent all the rods and cracked 6 pistons and the customer was told by the tuner that it was "safe power". Until I start having these issues I don't feel the necessity to run forged if I don't have too. Jon wants me to get his pistons to fail so we know what they are capable of but I don't think that will be very easy. Time will tell...:D
