I've been looking at gooseneck trailers for a while now 27-28+5 but can't make up my mind on which company to go with. What do you guys think? Let me know the good and bad of what you've seen out there.

How much are you going to use it. Every day or just every now and again. PJ trailers are some of the nicest i have pulled but they have a nice price tag with them. Big Tex and Kaufman are cheaper but not built as heavy as a PJ imo.

I pull a big Tex 36 footer and it seems built a bit heavier than our PJ, but the PJ is quite a bit older, I really like the way the big tex is built and it pulls really well. I've never pulled a brute trailer before but they seem nice http://www.brutetrailers.com/index_005.htm

Also I prefer the way the big tex wiring is done, seems a lil more heavy duty imo, but im comparing to an older PJ.
Here is the big tex

My dad bought a 36' Lamar Trailer a few months back. It's a pretty nice trailer.

Anyone ever have any issues with being over 26,001 GVWR and not having a CDL? I think anything in tow over 10,000 GVWR you should have a class A too.

I believe here in Texas that if your setup is capable of towing 20k and up you are supposed to have your CDL, I have never had any issues myself.. "yet" but idk what the laws are in other states.

I have a hooper 20+5 at the moment its decent, but I am looking at Gatormade and BigTex at the moment myself. I say either of those you are safe. Those 40" ramps on a Gatormade are pretty awesome though. Just get either one of them with a pierced frame so you are sitting a little lower making your loading angles a little better. I load 10 - 1100lb round bales of hay on mine and roll off with it with ease, the only thing ever said by the po po is a wise crack like "Got enough hay?" :D

with our 24ft kaufman we were about 21500 combined going to denver. both trucks and trailer loaded down with tools and 4 guys....i think you'll be fine if you stay under 30ft. i will say this though, the most important thing about the trailer is the tires....man have we learned that. don't settle for cheap tires.

Depending on what trailer I buy I could easily be over that.
I'm not sure how it works in CT, but down here, they go by what weight you register the trailer for not what it is rated at. You can register it for whatever weight you want to carry.
