Two questions please.

1) Is there an easy way to tell by looking if a new trailer has Dexter axles ?

2) How can a trailer be rated 25k GVW when it has two 10k axles ?

Take 3 makes the best gossnecks on he market by far. Their technology and design is fantastic. I own a car hauling company and their trailers r unsurpassed.

1. Dexter will have a placard of types on the axle tube.
2. Tongue/pin weight plus axle capacity. (5,000lb+20000lb=25,000 gross trailer weight) Basic what the trailer would weigh if you in hooked it and left it on a scale. Your avg dually has no problem hold 5-6000lbs in the bed.
Avg srw can hold 3000-3500 in the bed

Haven't seen anyone mention GATOR or LOADTRAIL yet. PJ and LOADTRAIL are almost the exact same trailers actually made by brothers on opposite sides of town here in southern Indiana. They broke up the big company years ago and one brother set out to build a better trailer.
Gator has a lot of features built into their trailers and the make a heavy tandem axle version that is 16k instead of the 12-14 normally found on single tire tandem axle trailers. You might look at gator.

load trail is a lighter version of load max.
gators are well built and on the heavy side of things as far as empty weight is concerned.

as of '12 just about all major trailer manufacture offer 17.5" singles on 8-12k axles, with either 9/16 or 5/8 studs

I did much searching for my latest gooseneck. I inspected many of them in person and ended up with a PJ. If you look close it's easy to spot cheap trailers. It's very nice and the dealer I bought it from had a very competitive price.

This is true.

I built trailers for a guy this summer and the steel he would get/used drove me NUTS!!! And the fact that he doesn't paint the whole trailer, just what you see was hard to take as well.
