hello everyone, well as the title says I'm looking to upgrading to a bigger charger for my 01 lb7 just don't know what lol. I'm planning on building the motor later on down the road like in another year or two, whenever i get the money gathered up i guess. hopefully i can get some help from here, I've tried doing some research but everything I've read about is from 08'-11' i figured tuning and turbo set ups have come a long ways since then lol. So first of all i daily drive my truck, and don't really tow a whole lot but if i do tho i tow a 28' bumper pull camper, or a flat bed tilt trailer with either a skid steer or sometimes a broke down truck and all this is towed on flat ground, there aren't really super steep hills where i live. Also i race quite a bit with it on the street, track, or events where they have some kind of drag racing event. So what would you guys recommend turbo wise for a guy who doesn't really tow that often and dd's the truck and races at the track and is looking for around 700rwhp? i have stock fuel but i plan on upgrading the injectors and cp3 later on when i have the cash for it. Just looking for advise on either going with something like a big single or compound twins? Def stumped here idk what to do I'm having a really hard time deciding what route to go, anything helps guys thanks a bunch.

that new s369 looks like it will be a pretty good contender for a tow/street charger. flows as much as the s472 from what i was told.

Build the motor first.

But, if you insist, look at the new SXE chargers that BW is coming out with. There's a recent thread about them here somewhere.

Yeah, no shit. I just love how "700hp" gets tossed around nowadays like its nothing. Christ.

The compressor does but the turbine doesn't. In my opinion, the 69 will only be able to be utilized to its full potential in a compound setup.

I'm with Tom. Your motor isn't going to survive a year or two and you definitely won't make 700...more than once. Do the important stuff first and the go fast stuff afterwards.

Trans done yet?

JDub thought it might still be able to hit 700. Worse comes to worse, could you substitute an older turbine wheel or housing (or both) to make it more tractable?

This is the map on the new 69mm compressor wheel, shows big numbers, but again, I think the turbine side will be the restriction to making big power. But there should be no issue doing 700...

No doubt a truck running the 69 will be impressive, but you're not going to see 900hp out of this turbo as a single like the compressor map suggests.

Either way, I wouldn't hesitate to run one.

The turbine on it will make for a better spooling turbo but not a high hp for compressor flow numbers. It's a really good bang for the buck with the better comp wheel and 360 bearings.

"But Dad it's a race truck":roflmao:
Lol well daddy had nothing to do with this truck, shit was payed for in cash, thats what happens when you bust your ass and save your money lol

well honestly its not that hard to achieve now days, i know plenty of trucks running 700+ on stock bottom ends lol. just takes a bit of cash my friend lol

yes the trans is done, mods are on my sig. ya i would do the motor first if i had that much money at the moment, but since i don't i just wanted to do what i could with it and have a little fun in the mean time while i saved my pennies for a build.

Stock LB7 at 700 rwhp = bent rods. Build the motor first, lb7 ihi with a batmo will make right at 600 and thats not even safe...

If your smart you will listen to the guys who tried it before you...

Oh man, oh man. I've been where you are right now with my LB7. Blew the first motor with the stock IHI. Blew the second with a Cheetah. I "just wanted to have a little fun" too;) Now that I have a built engine, I should last a little while longer lol!

Look, I know you want to go faster and make big HP. We all do. But it's going to cost you some serious coin. The stock IHI, a good tuner, lift pump, Banks Big Head, will already push you past the limits of the engine. Just save that money for a built engine. You'll thank us later and be miles/money ahead lol!

No, 700 isnt hard to achieve today, its just how guys jumping into Duramaxes seem to think these engines can magically hold that power level in stock form. I know Cummins could, but an LB7 or LLY Duramax won't. There's always exceptions, but they are ALL on borrowed time.

I guess my point is that there's a right way to do this, and a wrong way. If you dont care about killing the engine and having to spend even more money replacing whatever the rods take with them when they go, then by all means keep doing what you're doing, and have fun doing it while you can. Just have another vehicle handy to daily drive when your truck goes down.

I will be the first to admit my ignorance of turbo setups but in some cases won't a bigger turbo reduce drive pressure and make more hp, while being easier on the motor? With correct and conservative tuning of course.
