Been chasing a P0087 on an 06 LBZ and wondering what is acceptable or "normal" fuel temps are. It was right at 100* ambient and fuel temps were fluctuating from 170*-185* depending on driving speed with a 10k camper behind it. Thanks

I noticed that the truck didnt seem to like fuel much above 100 while towing (100 at the filter, where I put a temp gauge probe)

I know ruben added a 2nd cooler as well. Seems about the norm, thats what I see with my transferflow tank blocking my fuel cooler.

No I haven't tried the fuel heater. It is all stock other then EGR blocker and lift pump. I read your thread, howich was that cooler and fitting?

IIRC Jason used an trans cooler, i think he cut off the stock fittings and used some hose, I used a used cooler I found on ebay:thumb:

I read that someone elses heater was staying on, think it was MMLMM's truck.

I just used a stock 6 speed trans cooler with fittings off some old lines and plumbed it in before the filter.

if you you are pulling a load in high outside temps, we are starting to see some injector issues. gm put out a bulletin last summer about high heat, big loads, the injectos are getting some extra clearance in them and returning fuel to the tank dropping pressure, only way to test for sure is with the tubes and hoses from the kent moore kit.

Quick update to this thread.

Last weekend I towed my single cab to Las Vegas, swapped trucks and towed Newly's old truck back to AZ. No engine or trans, so just a shell.

Outside air temps were between 100 and 114.

Took my time coming home, saw a peak of 217* fuel temps. It would sit right at 185* flat ground, drop a gear and maintain 65mph and could see fuel temps climbing via my CTS. I also logged while towing and saw a limited fuel pressure to I think 170MPA above 185* fuel temp.

I bought a fuel cooler form Mike L on my last trip there (setrab, the badass one with fans) and half tempted to put it on my LBZ but I need it for the race truck. I will be adding some sort of cooler in the next week due to high fuel temps. I see right at 150-160* unloaded in the AZ summers.

Also, I ran it down till the low fuel light came on. Mike L is right, after 1/4 tank, crusing and high rpm fuel temps are higher. Not much, but a noticeable amount. The LBZ has nothing other than a 65hp tow tune with turbo brake other than the night it went to the track.

Let me know how the cooler works for ya. I cleaned my stock cooler while I was crawling around a couple weeks back since it was covered in road grime. My fuel temps at the track last year were around 200. I know the dirty cooler wasn't helping and racing with less then a 1/4 tank. Is mikes cooler a replacement for the stocker? Or an addition cooler?

Maybe I can find the discussion thread...

Iput a derale cooler on the LBZ I was working on and it helped big time with the p0087 code but he was still having issues only when towing. Dealer put a new CP3 on it and that helped even more, but it still codes every once in a while. Think injectors are next on the list.
