As of right now, it hasn't completely come ahead..

There's couple options right on the table..
They can fire me, because I don't meet company requirements... They lose rough 50k of revenue the get off me..
They find new insurance that allows exempt trucks..

They have broker authority, so I got get carrier authority and contract through them that's 6-8000.00 plus Insurance which would be another easy 10k...call it 20k I don't have..

Leaving I drop from 40' air ride and 20k cargo to 30' spring ride and 14k cargo not exactly what I want..
Boss has 75% of local flat bed LTL frieght in his pocket mainly because of having me for the last 4 years

According to FMCSA I'm legal without an ELD,

Company has to at minimum meet fmsca requirements

Ive gotten to the point where I believe the Teamsters leadership are simply "open to the highest $$ bribe". The Union hasnt done anything to help the workers they represent in years, but they've done a lot to help the companies those workers work for.

This is equivalent to NFTA that auto/mfg unions wantes and screwed up and killed auto and manufacturing Industries, but this will affect everyone most substantually as it's more visible when you go to/from work or wherever

Not to mention substantually lack of safe parking for trucks, alot of big 24H retail stores don't like having trucks in the back 40 of their parking lots

ELD = Telematics. Its recording everything you do from key-on....and I mean EVERYTHING. It'll even tell if seatbelt is on.

You get used to it, Adam. Its just another way management can keep control over their employees. Our trucks have had it for over 10 years now.

On a positive note, after MidMich got a nice 8" of snow Wednesday, I finally got off my ass Thursday night and bought a small sled to use to help get packages up to houses (two wheel cart just doesnt work too well in snow). All I can say is that I am an Idiot (yes, with a Capital I) for not doing this years ago. Used it at least a dozen times Friday, and it was just amazing. It was like using those little slider things to move a couch all by yourself. Moved 100lbs of chairs up to a house like nothing. All I could do was laugh every damn time I used it.

Oh yeah, it looks like we're working Sunday, Christmas Eve this year, too. Thanks Amazon. :rolleyes:

From 2012, the number of crashes has increased by 86%; the number of injuries has increased by 66.5%; the number of fatalities has increased by 150%.

Swift Transportation Accident History
In the 24-month period prior to December 3, 2017, Swift drivers were reported to have been involved in 2,256 crashes, 657 involving injuries, including 67 deaths. Since 2012, the number of crashes has increased by 50.4%; the number has increased by 51%; the number of fatalities has increased by 43%.

Werner Enterprises Truck Accident History

Unfortunately 99% of anything the government does is about control of the populus


Just trying to make it easier for others to be informed as it will effect them eventually regardless if you're directly involved in the trucking industry or not

You do realize that the whole reason that more accidents are reported from ELD companies is b/c the drivers can't "hide" their mishaps anymore, right?

You are also not taking into account weather, road conditions, fault, etc.....

Just deal with it. The insurance industry is mandating it. Its coming whether you like it or not.

Doesn't mean you're going to win, but over-regulation by our government is one of this country's biggest problems. If we can't have voter ID laws because it's too hard for some people to get a free ID. We shouldn't be requiring people to buy brand-new trucks to meet electronic log standards.

That's part of the mega fleets argument...
Only way to hide said accident is to not have a report filed...

the mega fleets the are self Insures because regular Insurance won't cover them have been pushing this because they are loosing $$ on a truck to truck comparison, the mega fleets want to used eld to level the playing field...

ELD was originally a disciplinary action forced on carrier's that couldn't keep their nose clean.

Nothing personal Tom this applies to all short haul drivers

From what I've gathered you're pulling more than 70 hour weeks right now...also pulling more than 12H days..
Local inside 100 air miles (150 for TX) is limited to 12H days and 70 hours per 8 days.. unless you run log book

That 12H clock starts when you punch in at work and your required to be punched out at or before 12H is up.
Anything more you're in violation

I know all about hours of service rules in the trucking industry. USDOT must not be able to do math, b/c how do 14 hr days and 60 hr weeks calculate out correctly? Crazy. I also understand that most of those mega-fleets use green drivers, but to me the biggest threat on the roads are the guys driving POS old trucks about to fall apart.

For us, there's a rumor that the company and union got together and lobbied the USDOT to relax the hours of service rules last week and next week.
Must've been big $$ exchanged to get that pushed thru, b/c in my 32 years its never happened before.
I told my boss that unless he shows me a memo/letter on USDOT letterhead stating that they have ok'd the 70hr workweek, then I am staying at 60.
I dont believe anything that comes from my company this time of year. Too often they violate the contract to suit their needs and deal with any consequences later (of which there are rarely any).

Im kind of T'd off that we didnt get paid double time on Saturday, considering it was a forced day during a holiday.

Yeah without actual paperwork from Dot I wouldn't go over... Too easy for them to through the driver under the truck... I've had a company truck and do that to me

Rather surprised you're not on a 70/7 vs the 60/6 day clock.loke the rest of brown is.

Running a log book is a PITA doing what you do electronic or not

I brought it home @ 59.10. Busted my heinie during the week to get everything delivered Avg 160 stops/day. Luckily, this truck I been driving the past 4 years is excellent in snow, best Ive ever had. :thumb:

Steward on Saturday was trying to tell me we're on a "6 day punch" rule (of which Ive never heard of before -- ever).
