What's wrong with the oracle ? I have one I bought for the same intent as the op and it's been a great gun. I can punch quarters size groups with it at 100 yards with factory ammo . I curious why you think it's a bad gun ?

I dont own one but have been at the range with guys who own them and they feel fine, inhave heard of out of spec recievers and bolts, misaligned barrels. I prefer chrome lined barrels for long life and cleaning eeez i dont think the oracle can be had with a chrome lined barrel. Not a big deal really unless u shoot hard and fast and neglect it.

They are very sensitive too dirt, i dont even think they have a dust cover on the reciever... Only competition i have ever shot in (did horrid by the way) the guy after me was shooting an oracle and after the second obstacle he was jammed up tight did a field strip and full of sand. I have had my panther covered in mud and sand never had a lock up. I did lock up with steel case ammo but i hear its an issue for many AR's.

Overall nothing wrong with them if u get a good deal and only shoot for fun. But for hunting and competion i would upgrade a bit.

Found my rifle

PSA lower with upgrade parts and polished trigger, Magpul furniture

Custom Red X Arms upper, full length quad rail, Red X stainless fluted barrel

Looks like i can get a helluva deal on it by throwing my glock in on trade.

I have been happy with my PSA build. I did their lower, lower parts kit, and furniture got it for $140. PSA had anderson lowers for $50 a few months back too. I would keep an eye on their site.

i've read nothing but good about PSA lowers, and read alot of good reviews on Red X uppers. Havent found too much info on the quality of their barrels tho, but for what its gonna cost me out of pocket, i think im getting a great rifle.

My cousins barrel is from red X arms and it looked like like a nice piece. Haven't been out shooting yet so I cant how accurate it is. its a stainless bull barrel fwiw.

Magpul by far. Be sure you match the correct buffer tube and stock. If you run a commercial buffer tube with a mil spec stock and vice versa, Iit will be too tight or too sloppy. If the back end of the buffer tube is slanted, it is commercial, if it is straight/flat/90° then it is mill spec.

yeah i was reading up on AR's and came across that. The rifle i am about to buy has a magpul, im assuming its the correct one. If its not then i probably wont buy the rifle considering thats basic info that should be known if someone is building an AR lol

Socoms shoot a mean round but ballistically inwould be interested to see how it stacks up against a 7.62 nato or 7.62x54r. .37 a round is hard to beat, though they are mostly corrosive rounds

Been thinkin about a dpms 308 here lately. What does a 458 go for now a days?

The .458 seems to be about the same price as a .308 AR but the ammo is pretty expensive. I was looking around and it seems to be about $130 for 50 rounds. I think .308 is alot more practical.

They do not have a chrome lined barrel , but do have a dust cover. I disagree about the being sensitive to dirt, mine gets neglected and I shoot a lot of steel case ammo and I have not had a single jam in the three years I have owned mine . Maybe I got a good one but for 650 it is a great ar to start with can always upgrade the barrel and other parts you don't like jmo

I have bushnell trophy acog. Its about 250 but goes on sale for 175 every now and then at cabelas.

Btw bushnell customer service sucks... I have one trophy red/green dot where the intensity/on/off knob is somloose that when firing it changes setting and or turns off, less than 200 rounds through the gun. It took 6 days to get ahold of them after 2.5 hours on hold i just cant take it. Also I have to send the site in to be assessed... My burris broke and they just sent me a new one no questions asked

Any way i really like there acog sights, good price and good performance just one bad one so far, and they will replace it i just hate sending shit in

Lets see some pics... Is it a flat top?
