I agree with those that say to build one. The AR platform is the small block chevy of rifles; easy to work on, plentiful parts and relatively inexpensive. Here is a pic of one I put together for a member on this site...using an Anderson lower, ironically, and a BCM upper. I have just under $300 in it as it sits

My AR15, using mostly YHM parts

And the 308AR I just built using a Sun Devil billet upper and lower

Chrome lined doesn't meean it's "better". A 1-7 barrel also limits you to some pretty heavy bullets. Not going to be the greatest for 55 grain plinking. Unless your doing competition shooting with matchgrade 70+ grain ammo I would either stick with a 1-9 or 1-8 twist.

I said beater also. Not better.. but cl is the ticket.

you have twist confused... nato are 1 in 7 for 55 grain. And chrome lined is better unless you shoot thousands of rounds a week.

Right, I knew that about twist, not sure why my brain spit it out backwards.

Chrome lined barrels have a tendency to be less accurate, that's why I said "chrome lined doesn't mean it's better". Just depends what your using the gun for. My 338 lapua does not have a chrome lined barrel to keep accuracy as high as possible.

In my opinion ARs are not really a first choice for a precision rifle. Chrome lining is nice for a gun that will sit in a closet, safe, truck etc. My beater was built with that sort of use in mind.

They're closer to $750 here. Those are the two I'm checking out.

Then there's this other thing at Academy. An AR15 made by Windham...?

The guy at academy said some people that worked for bushmaster left and started their own company along AR's. They go by Windham armory. It's really light and $650. It doesn't look like a bad gun, but how good could a $650 assault rifle be...

Here's the scoop on Windham:

Does JSE make a good upper? This gun I'm looking at had a billet Anderson lower on a JSE precision upper. It's a damn sweet looking weapon.

As far as building an AR goes. Is it a matter of finding a nice complete upper and a nice complete lower and smackin them together

I run modded dpms panthers and they are awsome 5.56, never had a jam with 15000 rounds through my old one. Dpms makes some awsome lowers and the receivers arent bad wih a little time and elbow grease. Just avoid the oracle they are cheap for a reason

What's wrong with the oracle ? I have one I bought for the same intent as the op and it's been a great gun. I can punch quarters size groups with it at 100 yards with factory ammo . I curious why you think it's a bad gun ?

So who can tell me what this build is worth

Anderson aluminum lightweight billet lower with DPMS lower parts upgrade kit, Magpul B.A.D. lever for faster reloads, and mil-spec 6-position stock

JSE Precision A3 T-marked upper, bcg and charging handle. M4 feed ramp. Extended tactical lever on charging handle for easier racking, solid rear-flip up iron sight. Lightweight quadrail, also marked properly. 16" M4 contour Wilson Combat barrel with standard A2 birdcage flash hider (removable) Forged front sight (adjustable). 1:9 twist will eat any 5.56 or .223 round you feed her and spit out exceptionally accurate shot groupings

A suppressor is my next upgrade for my .458 socom. Of course it will also work and any other gun smaller than a 50 caliber.

Doesn't work very well on smaller calibers. My .45 is quieter than .22 running through the suppressor. To many gasses squeeze past the bullet on smaller calibers.
