sounds like just some bad cups

was pressurizing the coolant the only problem

Kev,
started losing power on the way home from suncoast last year and as the power loss continually got worse the white smoke started pouring out with that heavy raw diesel smell...my guess is more than the one injector I knew was bad let go...

still hard to explain the balance rates all being 7.0 though... I know these electronics are made to compensate for issues going on but all the other seven injectors balance rates went to 7.0:confused:

note:coolant pressurization and 1 bad injector(7.0 rate and some hazing) was known before suncoast

i have a similar view on rods. eventually i will be building a second motor that will NEED rods. my first one will not. it will be a single stock cp3 and i think no matter how much air i can stuff in it LBZ rods will hold it. If not it will be a risk i am willing to take for $3k

If you are willing to chance it and are able to control your torque by keeping the big fuel out of the low rpms IMHO you'll be alright. If you can wait a month or so i will let you know once my motor is in the truck and a few pulls are under my belt with it :)

I'm not sure where I want to go with the build though...I really don't want to go over $5k total...it would be nice for the $k for rods to be spent on a bigger turbo but a bigger turbo will more than likely kill the LB7 rods...maybe go LBZ rods and a bigger turbo?

this build will be a few months in the making so yes...let me know how yours works out...

update 5-29-10

Well just when I thought I could budget this rebuild fairly easily with a couple more upgrades...Steve and I pulled the heads yesterday to start breaking down the block further and to start bring things to the machine shop...

more bad news...(taken from cell phone):(

ideas?

Why do I keep doing this?

How does that port look? Piston crown? Cylinder walls? Any other damage?

Just my opinon, but if its just the valve, there shouldnt be much more cost involved over standard refurbing the heads anyway.

the damage goes past the seat...Machine shop said they could replace the hardened seat and maybe patch the slight damage to the head...but would not guarantee anything...I have not looked at the head with the valve and seat removed...Steve is going to stop by there Tuesday to have a look at what they are talking about...

they said it looked like the glow plug tip (broken off in the picture )got in between the valve and the seat...

All the pistons look good along with the cylinder walls retaining the cross hatch(?) lines...

one piston had a little corrosion on top...not sure if some coolant got in there from previous partial disassembly of the motor at the time of beginning of this thread...
