There are a lot of good points that have been made. Every company will run into a problem at some point and time. What sets the good ones apart from the not so good companies is how they handle those problems. Sometimes it cost them money but it will be made back much sooner since the reputation has the utmost credibility with taken care if the problems.

I see what you're saying Tim but the fact that engines last a matter of minutes in competition @ high HP levels does in no way excuse using parts that are already damaged. I guess I'm no expert on what constitutes a questionable crank but I know where most would turn for an answer and he already posted. Do you remember the thread Dan @ PPE refused to take back a set of Carillos without them being checked and verified ok by Carillo. Seemed unreasonable at the time but he was trying to protect the uncompromising standards PPE is known for. They don't take chances, they will only use quality parts. He knew there was no room for a gamble or potential error that could come back to haunt PPE. It didnt make sense to me at the time as most people agreed with the guy who was a little ticked. He didnt damage them. Pretty safe to say. And while I agreed with that guy at the time.... I see why Dan took the stand he did... For reasons just like this thread.

I remember that thread...It was Bill, the OP here, that tried to return them! haha.

This is the only point I have really tried to make. That and the fact an agreement had been reached and when it came time to pay up. I was ignored!!!!!!

And that's what the focus should really be on, instead of the he said she said, good cranks bad cranks, budget builds, original customer BS.

You may be right but please understand a lot of my input here is coming from my own "best practices" policy with my company. We don't roll the dice with decisions, we don't cut corners, we follow instructions carefully with the products we use. Why? Because my customers pay me more money to be picky and deliver top notch high end work. I follow best practices and use expensive products because I believe in doing everything in my power to reduce risk and assure a successful job. I have no dog in this fight either, but on this board we tell eachother when we are wrong but we also stick up for one another when trouble arises. Sometimes we think we are right but it takes our peers to humble us and set us straight. That's ok. That's how we learn and get better.

I understand what you were trying to go for just, just missed imo, you know how they are. Someone made a great point awhile back, what happened before is mute and over, its the he said /no he didn't say on the help for a new part . it does seem off that a guy wouldn't call back and get a part at cost... best of luck to all involved

No matter the builder, they build it, you pay them for something built, sealed up and ready. This would not have been discovered if the op would not have had the engine opened up and inspected. Thats what trust is about, when no one is looking how do you do your job. And if something is sold second hand all details should be on the table.

If these forums mean nothing to you then take your ass somewhere else. you wont be missed. The benefits of this forum and other far outweigh the drawbacks. if you feel "these forums mean nothing. Wow, I don't know about "these forums" but this one means something to most here, kind of a big diesel family. I you want to piss off a bunch of guys on a forum, that's a perfect way to do it.
Well said diesel brother. This forum has sold me parts,hooked up my parts to others that needed them and yes even lead people to DTS.


At the end of the day unless DTS has in writing about the customer requesting to reuse what would be considered to be a questionable crank with grooves or scoring........make it right and make this shit storm go away.You put your name on a product and sold it now stand behind it.

We are a family here. We rarely moderate and try and let things work out and it works. The members here moderate themselves very well. Pat and Kat wanted it this way and so do we.
If one of my employees came in here with the same trash; he would be banned from here and my shop. Problem here is, he was told to come here and join and talk this trash.

I once heard that it takes twice as many positive reviews to make up for each negative review. I'm not counting but it looks like DTS has got their work cut out for them. A simple problem that could have been solved a lot easier by a simple phone call.

A crank at this point would have been very, very cheap! Also speaking about PPE I wish they paid there contingency as well as they handled there returns. It's really no big deal I will peal the stickers for next year.

I had a customer buy a trans kit from David with one of his "custom" convertersagainst my advise. It came with instructions written on a piece of note book paper and the clearances weren't even close. The clutch kit was thrown in the trash and now the converter has issues as well. Buyer beware...

If you installed it....and you "fixed it" why is it having issues? Also, Phil stands behind his product 100%, so you should call him instead of posting here..
